Games as anger management?

Definitely. Serious Sam did me nicely when I was pissed off in my last job. Big guns, hordes of enemies, volume turned up, brainless rock playing - good de-stress. Also playing "Speed Bond" on the N64 - the facility level, just running around like a headless chicken shooting anyone who appeared infront of you. Very satisfying.

Working for myself, however, has the effect of meaning there are less days like that.

I can't play games when I'm angry. I need to be in a good mood first, as games are likely to just make my much more angry.

I shout and swear at the screen, usually on something like WE, and although it gets me angry, it does get everything out of the system. It's a good destresser, surpisingly, but I never play games with the specific intent of destressing, it's just, shallw e say, a by-product.

*Is that a word?

If I want something to releave stress when I am angry then it has to be a real contact game. Killing things in Halo or going absolutly mental in Lord of the rings:TTT really helps me calm down. The game really neeeds to make me feel that I am really in control of that chracter and that I am just unstoppable when angry...

Actully, perhaps I should see a doctor?;)

tetris.

We have a believer!!1

Normally I like to play guitar, loud, and shred the hell out of it. I play better when I'm pissed off.

But playing FPS doesn't really do it for me, playing games like SC and DoA do, and Tetris calms me down.

I find that games are great anger management, and the more frustrating and unfair the better.

How does this work? Simple, after spending 3 hours solid swearing, hitting joypads, and generally getting incredibly angry with a cheating computer/console, you have no anger left. Anything real life then throws at you is met with a casual shrug of the shoulders.

I guess that's what we call a 'meh'

Thing is I'm a very patient and tolerant person, and I think I have games to thank for this at least in part. They can be so frustrating sometimes, I just think they teach you to remain calm under stress.
