PlayStation Plus Premium - Out Now

Can’t pick up Mafia from this month’s offerings, as I played when it was available in one of their premium tiers.

 

I can’t even buy it.

 

Not sure how Sony make such a mess of digital purchases/subscriptions in 2023.

Same here. This makes the premium plan even worse value for money because once a game leaves the periodic service I guess you're locked out from even paying money for it. I'd complain but who wants to waste a day with Sony's famously excellent customer service team?

 

I think it might be time to retire the PS5 (it's being used as an FF14 box most of the time anyway) and shift across to the X-Box.

I downloaded Mafia when it was on Premium before I let that lapse and it let me get the PS+ version without issue today.

It appears that locking you out of some games forever is an undocumented feature of the highest tier.

PSN is having issues tonight (we had to quit a Destiny raid because two of our team lost entitlement - they are not the primary user - and it seems the authorisation service is broken) so I'd perhaps try again tomorrow anyway.

It says something about my faith in Sony in that I’m reluctant to do that lest it break my access to other games.

 

They need to fix these issues. Digital distribution is all about trust. Sony’s response might be the quite valid “fuck you, we have your money” and that’s true. But I’ll be highly unlikely to renew, especially when I’m paying the top rate right now.

I’m glad I got psplus extra. It’s helped me accept early in my ps5 ownership that the reason I didn’t play any of Sony’s many first party cinematic 3rd person/open world games on my ps4 wasn’t in fact because I didn’t own them, rather I didn’t own them because I find them extremely boring and they simply aren’t what I want from gaming.
Seemed to briefly forget that when I picked up a ps5 a few months ago. 
Then there are games like Returnal that are more my cup of tea but when I play them on extra I think “I need to buy this”.

I guess the ideal subscription game is just mediocre enough for me to play through it but not good enough for me to actually like it/want to own it. Zero replayability also a bonus.

Tried it again this morning, and still doesn’t work.

 

Haribo’s answer of having Premium lapse doesn’t seem to be the solution that Sony want. Not being able to even buy the game seems a non ideal solution for 2K. Put the game on Premium, so customers can’t buy it if they like it.

 

Microsoft do this so seamlessly, it just makes Sony look a bit clueless, especially this far into a digital age.

It's not an answer, just my experience minutes before reading your post about the issue  - indicating there is likely a way to fix this. Doesn't make up for Sony's consistently terrible running of that side or things (or how shit Premium is) for a second.

Have you tried it on the mobile app?  I've just used it to add my monthly games, and it let me add Mafia without issue despite the fact I know I've played it via premium in the past.

It’s annoying though because eventually it will happen to a game I want to return to.

 

And quite frankly it was fun just to drive around in that game. I can’t believe they haven’t sorted it but I won’t ring support because I don’t have the time to relive the tea/no tea puzzle from Hitchhikers Guide.

Come on Sony ffs where is Wipeout? Ridge Racer type 4? Resi 2? Silent Hill 1?  Final Fantasy Tactics? Vagrant Story?

 

I’m not saying we should have all of them dumped on there immediately and they probably need a fair bit of rights negotiations, but give us a sense that someone is even looking into this more than for an half hour once a month. 
 

Look at what Nintendo just released for the GBA on Switch. A small choice sure, I understand and actually quite enjoy a slower trickle of games so they all have their time to shine, but you can see there’s some curation and effort going on with the choices they’ve made. Limited as they are. 

Not a day goes by I don’t regret sticking with the essential tier.

Where's literally any PS2 game? They distinctly mention PS2 in the marketing blurb, but haven't released a single PS2 game other than the ones that were already out on PSNow.

 

They really need to overhaul their emulators, big time. The current ones simply aren't fit for purpose.

I really have tried everything bar calling Sony support (because I'm certain that won't solve the issue.)

 

I even dug out my old PS4, let it update for half an hour and found that yes, I can't claim Mafia via PSPlus because I already own it, and yes, I cannot download it because I already own it and yes I can't run it because I don't own it.

 

Outrageous (first world problem) and if I knew this was going to be the upshot I just wouldn't have upgraded my plan.

 

From what I've seen online there's frustration from others in the same boat, frustration from those who tried support and an army of voices from others saying "Working for me, you're either doing it wrong or you're a Microsoft plant." It's the same sort of shit you get when itunes doesn't work.

 

Really not happy although digging out the PS4 reminded me how robust a piece of kit it was (although louder than a jet engine at times.)

Is there an actual reason you're so resistant to contacting support? I don't really see the downside to opening a ticket via their web chat, and it would've taken less time than the steps you've already taken.

 

If it's a known issue at this point they'll probably have some kind of process in place, like removing the old 'tracker' from your account so you can claim the game again. If not many people have reported the problem then you've helped bump it up the priority list, plus it'll be easier for them to identify why it's affecting some accounts but not all.

I had an issue back when Uncharted 4 was added to PS+ Collection at theaunch of PS5.

 

I owned the physical version, hadn't claimed the PS+ version when it was a monthly free game in April 2020 and when I went to claim it as part of the PS+ Collection it showed as "unavailable".

 

I contacted PS support via email and, after a few back and forth emails, they sorted the issue and I was able to download the digital version of Uncharted 4.

 

I know loads of people don't give them much credit but I thought PS support were really helpful.

Not sure why Forbidden West goes in Premium, other than Sony just making up the rules as they go along.

There already is one.

 

I think it's just poor graphic design by the leaker. The titles will be in the Game Catalogue, which is included in both Extra and Premium tiers.

I beat RE7 last week after buying it with PSVR1 at launch. Wanted to get ahead of RE8 and PSVR2.

 

Ended up playing on TV and boy the scares in that game are front loaded.
