I could understand the anger at the playtest comment if the game was an unfinished mess.

But aye... As always it is taken like the developers are filth, and are just out to con us.

Setting aside the mistranslations and obvious predetermined YouTube takes, I think that what I've seen of the game looks okay. It's not single-handedly saving 3D Sonic and it's not revolutionising the genre, but I like the vibe of exploring around and taking on challenges that fit typical 3D Sonic gameplay. The thing is, anyone who sees 3D Sonic as a punchline already made up their mind when it was announced, and will look for the easy teardowns on YouTube.

I hope Sonic Team and Sega management realise that the longer development cycle has helped - sure there is pop-in but the game footage I have seen doesn't look or feel unpolished.

At this point I feel that folks are just trying to push the 'Sonic cycle' as re-evaluating their view is probably too much effort, and probably don't care enough to try. And some YouTubers need it to be so for the clicks...

Aye people will always be people.

It is honestly incredibly competent and at times, brilliant. I mean it is not even close to Mario Odyssey, but I am still thoroughly enjoying it. My biggest gripes with it, are the art direction at times, and he sometimes zooms off (but that is most certainly a me being too old/tired to react quick enough problem).

The art is a funny one, because at times I despise the look of the open world, then there are these pockets that are brilliantly composed.

As mentioned numerous times before the best part of the game is the soundtrack. It is absolutely incredible, and oozes 2003.

Il pick it up when it's a tenner. I actually like sonic games, even most of the shite ones.

Yeah, I do like slagging them off, but I do play them and do get some enjoyment out of them. But it’s never 50 quid’s worth of enjoyment.

Except Sonic 06. That was appalling.

Whoever put the slot machine thing in needs to be shot.

For some reason, you get a meteor shower every few nights and when that happens a slot machine is stuck on your screen rolling over and over until it’s done. Shortly after this happened I ended up in a boss/titan fight (the squid with the long tail you run on) and it obscured most of my path.

There’s no way to get rid of it. Jesus

Just beat the game , 67% trophy completion after 21 hours.

Few minor issues here and there but really loved it overall. The islands were all great in their own ways , the soundtrack was consistently excellent, often outstanding, and the game is just flat out fun and addictive, very difficult to put down when you're in the groove.

Negatives were the pop in, the limited themes of the cyberspace stages, the upgrade tree needing more to it. Being picky I would say I got used to skipping the short cutscenes when you open a portal or unlock the next memory scene, did we need these more than once, but that's about it really.

The 'proper' last boss will surely raise some eyebrows but I thought it was absolutely genius. Never saw it coming. Bloody hard. Fantastic music track too. Really finished the game on a high note.

Road to 100% starts tomorrow!

Well done Sonic Team. Been a very long time since I've said that 👏

I assume he wants it fixed, as in, you'd fix something to a wall.

If you want to keep it permanently, here's a screenshot that you can keep to look back on whenever you want:

Since that can serve as a record for posterity, now can we change the thread title please?

I even checked @Thor's profile to see if he got any likes. My joke was going to be that he had them on but didn't know. Turns out the humble brag was reasonably accurate.

I know I can be abbrasive at times, sometimes even coming across as a dick (usually when drunk on weekends - apologies to all). But I do mostly just try and contribute to the forum. :)

Accolades trailer

I've had a couple days to think about this and I still can't get over the sheer balls of them in regard to the true final boss. I'll spoiler it , I recommend you don't read it if you have any intent of playing but if not...

FINAL BOSS SPOILERS!

Spoiler

The true final boss is a bullet hell shooter in space controlling one of the titans against a planet sized enemy and it plays as a homage to Ikaruga in that you need to change the ships colours to defeat it's projectiles. It's surprisingly quite difficult and took me around 4 tries, makes sense that it is only playable on hard difficulty (you can change at any time so just switch during the last island boss to play it)

Super Sonic gives this speech "He took your home world, he took your lives! Are you really going to let it happen again? I need YOUR help. We can end this!" It's sold so earnestly by Roger Craig Smith you can't help but smile.

This wonderfully atmospheric track plays and I found the whole thing a great cap off to very enjoyable adventure.

Sonic Frontiers Ends 20 Years Of Poor Sales In Japan, Best Selling Entry Since Sonic Adventure 2

Sega has managed to shake off Sonic's more than 20-year curse in Japan, with Sonic Frontiers making the sales charts on three different platforms this week. While not enough to beat the likes of God of War: Ragnarok and Splatoon 3, it does put the Blue Blur in the best position he's been in the region for two decades, becoming the fastest-selling game in the series since Sonic Adventure 2.

This comes after Sega made a conscious effort to have Sonic Frontiers appeal to a Japanese audience. This included rewriting all of the dialogue and giving the game a much more sombre tone than it had in the west, as it was felt that Japanese fans weren't big on the cartoony and goofy direction the series has taken in more recent games. The experiment has paid off, with Sonic Frontiers selling 46,276 units on Switch and PlayStation alone.
