Sonic Frontiers - the game

I've been tempted by this for sometime but when I saw the trailers the pop in was a bit bonkers.

 

I guess with a fast paced game you might not actually notice it that much, but was wondering if it received any post release patches (series X) that improved it at all?

I played it on Series X just after launch and I didn't really have issues with pop-in at all. It was there but it never affected me playing the game.

Just got this brand new for only £25, and I must say that first impressions are very positive indeed!

I like the open world, I love the combat system, and I like the other-worldliness of the enemies and the story. Sonic Stranding this seems to be.

 

Does it get progressively worse after the first two hours or so?

Nope. It’s really fun.

Yeah, I am really enjoying this! Surprise of the year for me so far. This is actually a Sonic game that plays as well as the trailers would make you believe

The combat is fluid and satisfying, the open world looks gorgeous at times (just don't play it on the Switch), and the obligatory sonic speed is really well integrated into the gameplay.

It's like they took the best parts from the (unfinished) Rodea Wii game, and added Sonic's trademark speed and some open-world gameplay to it (with a little bit of NiGHTS) and the result is a really enjoyable game I think.

 

That Edge^tm [3] simply boggles the mind. This is at least a [6] or even a [7]. I have high expectations for the next game, seeing as this one was a bit of an experiment.

It's fair to say that Frontiers finally broke the Sonic cycle.

 

And oh yeah, it also has Big the cat in it. So definitely a [7] then.

Two islands done and dusted (ie. completely mapped and all side-stories done), and still enjoying this. 

Surely that EDGE score devalues any authority that readers place in EDGE's opinion?

I had a fantastic time with it. Played it before they patched the bugged Achievement for completing the story on the first island though. 
 

That 3 is a fucking joke. I gave up on taking note of review scores a long time ago.

Fucking hell. Finding Tails in Chaos Island was a proper "Sonic 3 barrel moment" for me though. Hours of looking for it, and it eventually made me check a youtube video. Tbh, I wouldn't have found it myself. Hopefully just a glitch in the system and not an indicator of the gameplay taking a nosedive halfway through the game.

Besides that, I'm still massively enjoying this.
