Lets all focus on the one extremely negative review from an outlet that no one's heard off because the desire for this to be a bad game by middle aged men is simply so strong that there must be some truth to it. Also the thread title is an embarassment.

As I wrote, Metacritic 74.

The Eurogamer review does read kind of bad though...

I'm fascinated by the OpenCritic Rating there — I wonder whether the Fair|Strong threshold is the 59%|61% recommend, or the 74|76 average rating.

Also, this variable response is wildly better than I was expecting, given the preview footage and, well, the body of work it's a part of. I'll probably actually give it a go; after all, it's simultaneously slightly better and dramatically better than best open world platformer Mirror's Edge Catalyst, per OpenCritic:

Yeah the contrast in the environments between the realistic open world and the bright structures for Sonic to play on is so jarring. They could have just boosted the vibrancy of the environments at the very least, it's like a kid got Shadow of the Colussus and started making a Roblox game inside it!

Even the harsher reviews I've seen say that at the very least then Sonic Team have the basis for what could be a good sequel and it feels like it's a been a long time since we could say that about a Sonic Team game.

It's amusing reading the review summaries. One says the platforming is abysmal, another says it's one of the best open platformers you can play. 😐

These two things can be true. If every open world platformer until now has been dreadful then you can be a terrible platformer and still the best of that lot.

Instead it's probably just a classic 7/10. Some people find things to like and overcome some things they don't. Others are the reverse.
