Galleon: Islands Of Mystery

I'm such a graphics whore these days. ;)

It does look fucking dreadul from those movies, but perhaps the scale will compensate?

Thing is, yeah, I love lush graphics, but I can see something in Galleon, something I feel hasn't quite been implemented as well since.... well, THAT game with the fat plumber.

Like I said, its all in the movement, the flow, the dexterity.

I'll put up with dodgy textures if I feel graceful.

Just countering Systemshocks thinly vield 'Gamecube owners have more taste' insinuation, by showing how a similar game type performed on that system.

In fact, a greater percentage bought it on X-Box than any other system, especially the PS2 version (although, other factors could be at work there, especially given Sony's xmas line-up).

So, it would seem there is potentially a market for this type of game as a system exclusive, which is perhaps at odds with Systemshocks point.

Those POP sales figures, are they worldwide?

Has the game even been released on Xb and GC in Europe yet?, Can't be arsed to check but it may be significant.

Especially as it probably sold next to nowt in Japan, being a western game an' all.

The music is great and I love the fact that Rahman moves like a cat. I didnt know anythuing about this game apart form the trailers they demonstrated way back in 2001 on Gamepad. Not convinced with the combat though, but the introduction of free-flowing platforming holds potential. I'll keep my eye on it, thanks for the heads up. B)

Seems they'd be more likely to get it than GameCube owners. I'm assuming that's what you're getting at.

No it wasn't. I think that Galleon probably needed a multi-platform release and maybe a PC release too to do well. I think it could be what I call a 'gameplayers' game, that's all.

Similar releases of such 'gameplayers' games just on say the Xbox have struggled I think unless they have mainstream appeal - KOTOR did very well because it was Star Wars and Splinter Cell because it was a MGS clone with guns and stealth but others like Panzer Dragoon and Jet Set Radio have not. Admittedly I'm not sure that the Xbox has many action/adventure type games so that could work for Galleon.

Are some of you that hung up on how it looks? I can't believe it. Just the look at the way the game moves. The way Rhama moves. The kind of platforming game that will suit this generation. Pixel Perfect jumps done away with, big ole bosses to clamber over and destroy, huge environments... So it has ugly textures. So what? Look at it this way. If the game looks like a dog, just why would any publisher pick it up? It's got to play well. It has nothing else going for it.

I suppose after all these years in development and the screens I've seen in EDGE I was expecting something a lot better looking than that.

Strange. I'm exactly the opposite. Knowing it had been first developed for older machines, I expected it look slightly last gen (it looks like somewhere between a DC game and an N64 one texture wise) so it came as no surprise.

What I do like though is the fact that they seem to have delivered on the movement issue, which at the end of the day, is what platforming is all about.

Each to their own though, and I do agree that it does look rough and ready in the texture department.

Is this an X-Box only game?

I was excited by the preview in Edge actually, it was a surprise to hear them actually being positive about the game after the long development period/ company problems etc etc.

I'm really going to have to fill in the missing link in my console collection soon, and get an X-Box.

I can't find the trailers where you described. I found a couple in 'the vault' but they are mostly cutscenes and don't show the things you describe. Has anyone got a better link?

Aye, sorry about that. Looks like the new additions have pushed those trailers off.

just look in the 'g' section.

i have to say though that the graphics are terrible. maybe they should delay it again and get the graphics engine sorted out. ;)
