What am I gonna watch now?

What else has a level of dark humour I haven't encountered since human remains and Jam. It's rare but  I feel a bit of my soul departed laughing at some of that.

Fucking fantastic telly.

Have you seen Wayne on Amazon Prime?

End of Season 2.

Spoiler

Bruce spending his final afternoon with Brit was absolutely heart breaking!

I can't remember if it was already clear before she came over for the day but for me it was a slow realisation with each passing activity what he was actually doing, then the soul crushing hug sent me over the edge.

Brilliant stuff.

I had to force myself to stop watching this at 3am last night. I'm with vezna - this is shaping up to be right at the top of my favourite shows ever.

This subforum is on a roll - discovered Letterkenny and now this thanks to you guys in recent weeks. Keep it up!

I'm also on board now due to this thread. Brilliant show. I don't like much drama but this is a cut above. How the actor playing Ray gets so much menace from a smile, or even a glare, is incredible.

Even though I currently have a lot of free time I'm having to ration myself to no more than 3 episodes in one binge. I'm going to be bereft when this finishes.

I've only got three episodes left. It's a fantastic show. How it goes from super fucking dark to downright hysterical is brilliant.

Middle of S3 spoiler...

Spoiler

The vagankle ... I thought I was going to have a fucking heart attack from laughing so much! I mean, I'm by no means a prude, but I had no idea those were a thing.

only a few episodes in but loving this so far - good work starting a thread for it.

what I love is how it almost feels under-written (but not in a bad way), nobody talks too much in that American way but you still see them as well formed characters, you just get to drop in on bits of what is going on that progress events.

This sounds brilliant but it's on Disney ??

Technically it’s on Star, which is sort of their international version of Hulu which is bundled in with Disney+ outside the US, weirdly making it much better value than the US Disney+ offering I think.

Holy shit folks this is good isn't it? totally lives up to the Soprano's comparison though it's not trying to be like that at all.

I know what you mean @Gotters about the writing, I think it's brilliant because this is how people talk to each other in real life, mundane and often funny. The christmas episode is a small masterpiece

Spoiler

The break up scene was incredible, that's how it is to break up with someone. No high drama or tears, just two people trying to hold it together. Really got to me.

I love how a lot of the seemingly incidental stuff feeds into later events.

Can any Aussies please reassure me that there aren't so many random cunts about the place? Having said that the mate culture is strong and that stops it being too bleak.

I think the Christmas episode was the worst one. Everything you mention in your spoiler was great, but they could not have come up with a more contrived or silly way for events to come to a head for Ray and Ally, it was just ridiculous.

As I said earlier, that’s probably the only bit in all three series that was duff though, everything else was top notch throughout.

We’ve seen Ray fly off the handle at the slightest thing before that though, it didn’t seem like a big stretch to me.

I’ve got 4 episodes to go in the last series, part of me doesn’t want it to end!

Also, as father of an 12 year old girl myself, the daughter in this is absolutely spot on.

Spoiler

I don't think Ray would be that violent in close proximity to his daughter.

in relation to the above discussion:

Spoiler

the point was Ray wouldn't normally do that in front of his daughter, but he was quitting smoking and the unicorn thing is a big part of their relationship. Plus that guy was a total cunt. It was a perfect storm and he couldn't not throw him through the window.

and yes @Fierce Poodle, the actor playing the daughter is also brilliant. I normally find child actors hard to watch but that's probably a combination of bad writing and acting.

No, he’s a pro. It was nonsense. But that’s not even the most stupid part of that whole scene:

Spoiler

The idea that Brittany would end up unwrapping…a unicorn candle! Which for mystifying reasons Ally’s brother must take off a child! And for further mystifying reasons he must not give back! So Ray has to offer him money, then throw him through a window! On Christmas Day, in front of his daughter and his girlfriend’s family! Because he gave up fags!

It couldn’t have been more contrived if they’d set out to write the worst plot lever possible. Which in the context of how great the rest of the show is, they did. And when you consider how deftly the endless coincidences that happen to move the story along are handled by presumably the same team, it’s just head scratching.

There are a million ways they could have got to the same end of that episode, it’s just bizarre that’s how they did it.

Er, @ZOK ...

Spoiler

She didn't unwrap it. The game was you choose a random one, and if you don't like it, you get to swap with someone else's that's already opened, and the other person has to do the swap. I forget what Britney unwrapped, but she didn't like it and swapped it for the unicorn candle. Then manbun Tristan comes along and acts a dickhead.
