I couldn't find a topic on it but feel free to merge if it turns out there is one after all.

No one else watching this? I'm really enjoying it. It's a TV show about a girls football team that's in a plane crash in the 90's and has to survive in the wilderness. The show alternates between then and now and it's about what happened in the time they spent in the wild and new eventus in the present. There's of Lord of the Flies stuff going on, with possibly worse (and supernatural?) things. It's currently sitting on a 100% critic rating on rotten tomatoes.

It's better than I thought it would be after the first episode. I liked that but was afraid it wouldn't deliver a satisfying experience. It's actually a lot slower than I thought at first too, which is nice. The characters get time to develop and the mystery to build up. I'm not really convinced by the young/old actors, some of them don't match at all (especially Juliette Lewis and the girl who plays the young version of her character) but after a while you just accept it.

I guess the best endorsement I can give is that I've been checking to see if a new episode is out frequently, despite having loads of other stuff on the go.

The trailer is pretty spoiler safe, it's mostly stuff from the first episode.

There’s been a bit of chat about it in the scary movies thread. I’m really enjoying it too. Definitely enjoying it as a much nastier take on lost with a hefty splash of Lord of the Flies. At the moment I think it’s walking the mystery/supernatural tightrope quite well, but feels like it could very easily collapse into nonsense at any point. Really great cast though, and definitely a weekly tv highlight for me atm.

Yeah this is exactly how I feel. Guess we'll find out.

Ended up watching the first four episodes of this back to back tonight. Very watchable even if it is a bit on the slow side. So far I feel like it focuses on the less interesting current day stuff a bit too much but we’ll see. Going to be pretty gutted when we’ve caught up and have to watch the last few episodes weekly.

 Is it only 10 episodes?

Spoiler

4 episodes in and we’ve only seen a week or so of their 19 months stranded!

Watched episode one last night and we really enjoyed it, will be watching a couple more tonight.

I was a bit surprised they showed so much of what happened after the crash but I guess they have to create some drama and a draw card somehow.

I've watched the first three episodes and aye, enjoying it. The blend of tones is spot on.

The girl who plays young Christina Ricci is really good as a creepy weirdo.

They've confirmed a second season, hope it doesn't fall off like some similar shows.

We talked about it a little bit in the horror thread, after silent runner recommended it - https://www.rllmukforum.com/index.php?/topic/259361-good-new-horror-films/&do=findComment&comment=13388883

I very nearly bailed after the terrible third episode, but I'm glad I didn't. It's been good fun.

I think Juliette Lewis has been awful in this, it has to be said. She's usually alright, but her performance in this has felt so cliched and phoned in. She sticks out like a sore thumb.

Haha, yeah, she's great!

Aw man, I was hoping that'd be the last one on the 16th. I was hoping they'd wrap it up in a nice pink bow, because as fun as it is, I don't know if I'd want them padding out a whole second series. Probably best just to have a nice satisfying closer, and then maybe do a spinoff, don't want none of this cliffhanger bullshit :D

Yeah, that's a pity about season two even though I'm really enjoying this. It's probably going to go like Lost and just keep piling mystery on top of mystery.

When I started watching I thought it was a limited series so it would all be wrapped up nicely after the 10 episodes but apparently they have a 5 year plan.

The penultimate episode

wrapped up what felt like 80% of the mysteries,

so presumably the final episode is going to drop a big fat twist on us, Shyalaman-style.

I think there's a few bits left to resolve.

Spoiler

The only person we know for sure is dead is Jackie right? All the rest - the coach, the younger kid, the girl who got attacked by the wolf etc - could all still be alive in the contemporary time. Who killed Travis? What's the 'journalist' up to? Was the symbol ever explained?

I think you're right about the twist though - there has to be something coming.

😮 I will await the inevitable season 3 cancellation.

I’ve watched the first 6 episodes and absolutely love this. It’s the closest thing I’ve ever seen that’s reminiscent of Lost but obviously it’s far more ‘adult’. The people behind this did Narcos so clearly they’ve got quite the pedigree.

Finale and entire season thoughts:

Spoiler

I'm glad that stuff was happening last ep, which was one of the better episodes of the season in and of itself. However, considering the amount of wheel spinning that went on this season, it just felt a bit manipulative to have all of that stuff dumped out in the last five minutes of the show.

The show looks great and there are some really good performances, but I find myself unable to really invest in it. I think I'm being wary about the prospect of being strung along for several years before being let down, but honestly rather than focus on creating a satisfying mystery I'd much rather future seasons just made the moment to moment a bit more interesting and gave a bit more to chew on between big reveals.

Yeah, I love this but there's a real risk of dragging it out too much across five seasons. That said, I'm already missing it - it's certainly not without flaws, but I've not felt quite such a strong attachment to a show in some time.

And yeah, after The Matrix Resurrections it's nice to see Christina Ricci getting more than a minute of screen time - and making the absolute most of it.

Agreed it was generally excellent.

Spoiler

Only thing i’m less keen on is the initial chase/spike pit bit.

Feels so cheap to chuck that in as a draw with little intention of getting to it this series, but I guess that’s tv these days.

Just finished watching the finale tonight & I absolutely loved it.

I think there is a definite throwback to reading 'Lord of The Flies' at school, as it is a genre of story that strikes a real chord with me for some reason.

Right now though I am just gutted that I have no more episodes to watch.  I only even heard of this show via this thread, and I kinda wish at the moment that it was 4 or 5 seasons in!!!!

I thought this was absolutely fantastic. Watched the whole season in one sitting yesterday, and I can’t think of any complaints. I was gripped throughout, excellent performances, great script, fantastic camera work, incredible sound. I honestly think it’s the best season of TV I’ve seen since Game of Thrones was good. Can’t wait for season 2.
