Second Purchase of the year for me

Jan 27 - Circuit Superstars PS4 (£15.99)

Jan 28 - Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection PS5 (£10)

Upcoming are Dying Light 2, Horizon, Elden Ring and GT7.  These are 99% certainties, with Sifu a possibility

I have just been reading through the posts in here and I'm contemplating giving this a go, I'm not entirely sure I would have the willpower but I'm conscious that with 2 young children at home in the very near future it might be beneficial to cut down on my expenditure.

To deviate a little from just buying the 12 games as my issue is expenditure rather than the number of games, I will limit myself to 12 full purchases throughout the year. My deviation will come in that if I want anything outside of those 12 games I have to either trade or sell an existing game to pay for it, so for example if I went and traded in a Zelda game for £30 or something, I could spend that outside of my 12 titles. This is then obviously limited to games I don't like / not enjoying as anything I do really enjoy tends to go into the collection ^_^

I do have a nice backlog so I will see how I get on, the only title I have bought so far this year happens to have turned up today in pokemon ^_^

February will be tough as I would like both Dying Light and Horizon, so I'm going to try to not buy either just yet and enjoy some of what I have, with it being spending focused maybe I can hold out until the price drops a little as well.

Out of the 12 games I know the following are on my must have list -

Triangle strategy

Starfield

Hogwarts legacy

There are a couple of titles that are coming to game pass too but that's already paid up so isn't going to be included, the most notable one for me is stalker!

Is the Avatar game due out this year? If so that could be on the list as well so that would be almost half of my year's allowance but they are distributed throughout the year at the moment and similar to above I might try and hold out on buying them right away and look for deals on them.

I got paid on Tuesday and am itching to buy a game going into the new month, despite Elden Ring coming out late in February. I might pick up Kena.

It’s bloody great so you won’t regret it!

Just make sure you play it and don’t park on the pile of shame. My pick for GOTY 2021.

Will do - I'm only buying games I immediately plan to play, so as soon as it arrives I'll start it up. Looking forward to it!

First purchase for me this week.

1. Uncharted - Legacy of Thieves - £10

So far I have successfully resisted buying Circuit Superstars, Death’s Door and Kena thanks to this thread - they would usually have been impulse purchases.  I am mulling over Dying Light 2 but going to wait for reviews to drop.

Looks like I should come out of January with no games bought, which will soften the blow of next month. Witch Queen and Elden Ring look like definite February purchases, and they’ll hopefully eat into spare time that would otherwise be spent making more dumb impulse buys…

End January report

0 purchases

5 games complete

2 backlog games in progress (Rail Route and Cyberpunk 2077)

Pretty much decided I’m going to give Elden Ring a bang in February though. I may bounce hard but I’m hoping the fact I persevered and eventually made progress in Bloodborne is a sign I can do so here

Is Destiny 2: The Witch Queen not cheating? It's the next thing I'm planning to get, and the deluxe version has you sorted for a year, which is easily hundreds of hours of gaming.

I’m kind of a filthy casual (I don’t do raids, rarely do dungeons, only do Crucible for Iron Banner and Crimson Days etc) so I find it much easier to juggle with new releases and my pile of shame. Although we don’t know the seasonal roadmap/calendars yet…

Somehow made it through January with just the one purchase:

1. Capcom vs SNK Card Fighters Clash (Nintendo Switch)

Elden Ring lined up for February but otherwise it's all been backlog so far (and the 40 odd hours I've put into Card Fighters Clash - I really love this game). Good start to the year.

I was on course for a clean January until I fell for the free Jedi: Fallen Order offer on Prime. It plays like a dog on my ancient pc but I lasted long enough to get into it so I've had to drop £15 on the PS4/5 version this afternoon.

Nothing spent, nothing played. A lack of gaming thanks to a having a kid with that covid what's off the news. Been good on the wallet tho. Silver linings.

It's been really hard to not just buy that new Pokemon to cheer myself up. It's full of stuff I don't like but everyone is playing it!

Unless something goes drastically wrong in the next couple of hours that's zeroooooooo for January.

Only 'finished' one game; Hades; and I can see me dropping back into it as it's a lovely way to spend half an hour. Nearing the end of The House in Fata Morgana though and I think a handful of hours will see me through Halo Infinite. Think I'm miles away from finishing Grindstone; my other 'currently playing' title.

Did have a little dabble with Windjammers 2 over the weekend and appear to have started a rivalry with my youngest, so I need get my eye in before he batters me at the weekend. Tch! Doesn't he know I've got a backlog to contend with!?

It's probably a bit difficult to give a  verdict just now as it does feel like there's likely to be a couple of big plot points in these last few hours. I did find myself in a weird position where I'd basically worked myself into a dead end at the halfway point; pretty incredible considering there can only have been two choices by then, so it was a bit frustrating having to figure out where I went 'wrong'. It's exceptionally passive, so that will be off-putting for most I expect. Really fucking grim in places too. Dancing between 3 and 4 out of 5 for me, I'd say.

January wasn’t a big gaming month for me. At the start of the month I carried on with my efforts on Battle Princess Madelyn (standard and Royale versions) and although I did make progress eventually, I haven’t played either for four weeks now, so they’re as good as shelved. I’ve made a little more progress with Final Fantasy X Remaster - from the calm lands, over the great mountain and out the other side. I’m currently saved just before the fight with Yunalesca. Definitely feels like I’m getting near the end of the story. The only other game I’ve played is Breath of the Wild. Been exploring a few nooks and crannies and mopping up side quests. Finally beat the final divine beast today (camel). Slowly running out of things to do before meeting Gannon.

TL;DR

Nothing bought.
Nothing completed.
Nothing abandoned.

Steam is doing a good job of tempting me in to an impulse buy… Inside available for under a fiver. Been meaning to play it for yonks.

If you’re ready to play it now then go for it :)

If not, just wait until you are, it’s on sale all the bloody time
