Gaming abstinence challenge: buying just 12 games in 12 months in 2022. Clear your pile of shame!

I've decided to request a refund for GT7 as not sure I will play it at launch as will be deep into Elden Ring

Will be sending the refund request in tomorrow when the emails open

I may end up getting it, but it will depend on reviews and how much time I can give it straight away

Next 2 purchases will are Horizon and Elden Ring

Salt and Sacrifice in May is also an upcoming purchase

I've got the 'rona and am isolating until the weekend, then it's half-term, so I've been quietly ticking off a few shorter games in the build up to Elden Ring next Friday. Down to 29 games now than I've either paid for or got for free, which is 10 fewer than what I started the year with. Not bad for a month and a half! Feels good.

Beyond ER, the reviews for Horizon means that it's still going to be a purchase for later this year. I'm interested in Sifu and OllyOlly World from this month, too. And the patch for Cyberpunk.

Everyone else staying strong?

No changes here. Ended up passing time by playing through Bloodborne again; aside from that, I've just been dabbling with PC roguelikes and 8- or 16-bit nonsense on the RS97. Oh, and I finished a P4 Golden replay for my Twitch channel, which was something I've wanted to do for ages. :D

My plan is to keep this going for another week or so and then actually pick up my first 2022 releases (Elden Ring, WQ). Anything beyond that (stuff released in March onwards) will be figured out later.

I’ve pretty much lost my crazy habit of buying at a game in almost every weekly sale(!). I’ve spent less than £20 on games this year, and one of those was the Uncharted upgrade.

It helps that I’m still chipping away at Skyward Sword HD, so I haven’t had any reason to see what else is out there.

Feels good.

@DarkCrisis Are you buying the Uncharted PS5 upgrades as a new game or are you doing the £10 update?

Trying to figure out if this counts as my first purchase of the year or not. 🤔

Jan - Uncharted Legacy of Thieves (PS5) - £6.79

Feb - Horizon Forbidden West (PS4 with PS5 upgrade) - £52.95

March - Kirby & The Forgotten Land - £39.45

April - Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp - £42.42

May - ??

June - Mario Strikers: Battle League - £42.42

July - ??

August - ??

September - ??

October - ??

November - ??

December - ??

Defo purchases still to plan in:

God of War Ragnarok

Stray

Well, plan is going well. Really helping that the PS sales have been rubbish this year.

Completed another game from the backlog, and updated my wishlist now there’s a PS5 patch for Cyberpunk.

Removed the PS+/Gamepass games from my backlog as they’re not owned games and can dip in and out of them. Pleased to see Madden ‘22 added to Gamepass over the past week. Having such games drop scratches the ‘new game itch’. Downloaded Two Point Hospital and UFC4; with those three and probably another 100 hours of Valhalla to wade through I won’t need to buy Forbidden West until at least April.

Purchased

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (January)

Completed 2022

Black Ops: Cold War

Deathloop

Wishlist (Pending Reviews)

Cyberpunk 2077

God of War Ragnarok
Horizon Forbidden West

Lego Skywalker Saga

Saints Row

Stray

Currently Playing

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Lonely Mountains: Downhill (GP)

Madden ‘21 (GP)

Backlog (Owned not subbed)

Bound

FIFA ‘22

Mortal Kombat 11

Resident Evil 7

Soma

Looks like I’ll round out February on track with two purchases. OlliOlli World and Elden Ring.

Also made good picking up games from the backlog, Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a fresh run through, I’ve managed to automate Prague’s railways almost 100% in Rail Route and I’ve also finished/abandoned a couple of other games that had been hanging around.

Reckon this thread has probably already saved me two impulse purchases that would have sat in my backlog for months.

I haven't played videogames that much of late, but I am still plugging away at Final Fantasy X HD Remaster and Zelda Breath of the Wild. I made my first purchases of the year at the weekend, all Wii-U eShop downloads after the news that it is due to close. I've played NES Remix 1 a couple of times already, it's really good!

NES Remix 1 £8.99

NES Remix 2 £8.99

Tengami £6.99
Olympia Rising £4.49

I paid using eShop credit - total cost to me was £27.

Purchase number 2…

Hotshot Racing on Switch. £3.19 on the eshop, and I had enough credit to cover it so it was essentially free.

So the story so far…

Jan - Metro Exodus PC - £4.94 after using voucher

Feb - Hotshot Racing Switch - free after using credit

Purchase No 3, Tiny Combat Arena on Steam, currently 30% off at just over a tenner.
I’ve managed to resist a few tempting releases (Powerslave for instance), but I couldn’t resist this flat shaded polygon flight sim from Microprose!

So the story so far…

Jan - Metro Exodus PC - £4.94 after using voucher

Feb - Hotshot Racing Switch - free after using credit

Feb - Tiny Combat Arena PC - £10.84

Game Collection have taken my money, so onto purchase number three:

1. Inscryption (PC) - 7/1/22

2. Kena: Bridge of Spirits (PS4) - 28/1/22

3. Elden Ring (XSX) - 21/02/22

4.

5.

6.

7.

8.

9.

10.

11.

12.

That should hopefully be more than enough to tide me over until April :)

More significantly, though, I've been firing through my backlog and have got it down to 25 games now, which, at the rate I'm going, will hopefully be doable by the end of the year. Some of them are big JRPGs, though, as well as Ghost of Tsushima, so we'll see.

2 games down now with Elden Ring lined up for tomorrow:

1. Capcom vs SNK Card Fighters Clash (Nintendo Switch) - £4.19

2. Elden Ring (PC) - £36.99

Still playing Card Fighters Clash and killing some time with Slay the Spire and Monster Train (both perma-installs) until Elden Ring hits. Advance Wars in April but nothing else on the horizon (maybe a good thing if Elden Ring is as good as it's reviewing).

1 - Circuit Superstars PS4 (£14.99)

2 - Uncharted Collection PS5 (£10)

3 - Dying Light 2 PS5 (£54.99)

4 - Horizon Forbidden West PS4/5 (£59.99)

5 - Elden Ring PS5/5 (£49.99)

That's it for the foreseeable, not sold on GT7, so cancelled that.  Salt and Sacrifice will be the next purchase I think by me

Sifu and Olli Olli World were bought for me by my wife, so I have enough to be getting along with

I cracked and bought XCOM 2 for £2.50 so now I have to play that instead of one of these sexy new games that's out this month.

All right FINE I also cracked and ordered Elden Ring after watching half a youtube review and deciding there was no way I could wait to play it.

1. Jedi: Slip'n'Slide

2. XCOM 2

3. Elden Ring

I picked up Destiny 2's Witch Queen expansion this week - it's technically DLC but it's pretty huge too. Elden Ring isn't here yet but it's supposed to arrive this afternoon. So:

1. Destiny 2: The Witch Queen (Feb)

2. Elden Ring (Feb)

Super Mega Baseball 3 dropping on GamePass is a boon. Also started playing Two Point Hospital, which looks like it will be good for some quick pick-up-and-play sessions.

At this point, will be very surprised if I buy more than six games this year, let alone twelve. Maybe there will be a flurry later in the year, but even so, doubt many will be full price and could just be things like DLC here and there (quite fancy going to Ireland in AC Valhalla)

This thread has been good for me, and my wallet, so far this year.

Feb recap, two purchases in Feb (OlliOlli Word and ER) after zero on Jan, so on track. Also, ER and Cyberpunk are going to keeep me busy for ages, with little Game Pass nuggets along the way. Maybe I picked a really easy year to do this ;)

Almost got through Feb without any purchases, but I picked up Dragon Quest XI on Switch for £30.

I’ve owned it before and played a few hours, but I really felt like playing a fun, colourful, turn-based JRPG, and couldn’t think of anything better. I don’t feel the least bit bad about it either, as I’ll be able to sell it on for 30 quid when I’m done.

Well, I had bought Elden Ring via an Argentinian digital code which failed because some other fucker had redeemed it already so eh maybe I'll pretend that didn't count and get Stranger's Wrath instead. Perhaps after I finish Mortal Shell first.

The only obstacle I had in front of me was Guardians of the Galaxy - desperate to play it, so thank you very much, Game Pass.

I don't think I'm going to bother with Elden Ring.  At least - not yet.  I may well love it but I've just started AC Valhalla and have RDR2 untouched in my list of shame.  I've also never played a Souls game before, so the hype hasn't affected me.  I can't miss what I don't know!

So far, my 2022 net spend is £0.  I reckon I can get through the whole of the year without buying a game.....

There’s nothing like playing an absolute shite game to make you realise you are wasting your time and money.   I’m having a clear out and beginning my abstinence today,

Which game was it? :D

Decided GT7 is the last game I'm buying this year! Have so much of a backlog and that's before the lovely content on GamePass to keep me busy.

Going to stay strong on this. Far too many times I've bought a game in sales etc and not played more than a couple of hours!

So not so much only buying a game a month more playing one game a month and finish it. Of course things like GT7 will be ongoing.

Desperately fighting the FOMO of not buying GT7 because I've got Kirby down as my March game and I'm determined to stick to my one game purchase a month.

Then I remembered that Ghostwire is out in March too.

AaaaaaaRrrrgrhbrghevhhhjh!!!
