It’s desperately awful.  My wife loves it and always gets a bit teary when watching.  I watched the first couple of seasons with her but nope out whenever it’s on these days, thankfully it’s only a few episodes a year.

Always thought it strange when Charlotte Richie showed up. She's far too good a comic actor for it.

I do think it's amazing that the Beeb made a love letter to the importance of the NHS and the people that love stuff like CTM all voted for Brexit and to sell off the NHS to privatizing Yanks.

Mind you, I think even my mum had to agree that Stephen McGann's delivery of his dialogue is just plain weird. Something really off about the performance. I can only think he has a skeleton in his closet, something like too much milk of the poppy.

As a show it’s feels algorithmically designed to appeal to the mumsnet demographic. It absolutely cleans up in the viewing figures (it was the highest rated drama on Xmas Day, coming behind behind the Queen’s Speech & Strictly Come Dancing) and if you ever check Twitter whilst it’s trending every single person watching claims they’re crying. It’s also been commissioned for at least another 3 seasons (they’re currently on 11) so clearly it’s working for its intended audience. Fair play to them, but as someone who is neither a mum nor someone with nostalgia for the ‘good old days’, I do find it rather baffling.
