Yup. Will be fascinating to see how Ocon and Gasly work together given they don't get on too well. Could be a bit feisty.

This of course opens up the possibility of Herta to Alpha Tauri, which would also be really fascinating to see. That kid has all kinds of speed and car control. Whether it'll translate to F1 is, however, another matter.

I’d be interested to know if he thinks he’s genuinely world class or just the best of a very average mini generation of young drivers!

There was certainly signs that he was good, but then, as you say, it’s hard to compare to those other than his peers.

I always felt that Robert Shwartzman was strong against Mick Schumacher and had an unlucky second half of the season when Sch won in 2020. The field wasn’t as strong as 17/18 but I think was stronger than 19.

Then in 21 Piastri came along and properly dominated.

TBH Alpine look like they have pie on their faces right now but come next year specifically they might just end up being the ones laughing.

Piastri looks the biz but how many times have we seen that. The Lewis / Max level drivers come along pretty rarely. Chances that Piastri is one of them? Less than 5%, 10%?

And he will crash a lot simply because it's all new. Mclaren could very well end up with a solid, to be developed over a few years Gasly level driver. Where as Alpine get a Gasly who isn't a crasher, a solid performer who will be be quick and reliable out of the box.

I want to see Gasly doing well, but to an extent, the above are (? were) his main problems. The reason RB decided they would never have him back in the big team was not so much that he was slower than Max. They told him as much while he was there. They wanted him to challenge for overtakes, take risks, show bravery, and he just wouldn't. They'd have preferred him to crash trying to do Danny-type late braking overtakes than just pootle along in a never crash, never do anything way. I hope he has learned that lesson and goes for it.

Leclerc had a poor middle sector so if they have a decent race car you have to think its advantage them with the tyre deg issues Redbull had in practice, bit of a shame the yellows at the end and Max fans continue to show their idiocy- flares at football are bad enough but to throw them onto a live race track is beyond moronic.

Shit track, but at least it looks like we have a few cars that will be close together at the top.

The LADS ON TOUR SUPER MAX DRINKING TEAM with the flares really can fuck off. Maybe he could ask them to, you know... not be cunts? Just an idea.
