Saw them at the Green door store here in Brighton last weekend. Was a great gig

Good to hear it! We saw them in Bournemouth. Great band but the sound in the venue was so bad.

Hope to see them in a decent venue at some point next year

It’s absolutely brilliant, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. I was looking out for the one track the artist creates for the mix but I hadn’t realised it’s 100% music commissioned by him. When you see some of the slapped together compilations out there it says it all that Parrish has gone to these lengths.

This might make me sound like an old fart but I’m enjoying the new album from The Lightning Seeds that came out the other week. It’s the first one for thirteen years and there’s no great departure from the usual formula. So if you like simple pop songs that you’ll be humming for the rest of the day you know where to go.

Yeah the only other musician I can think of also from Detroit is Kenny Dixon aka Moodymann, but still noticeably different. Detroit is such a hotbed of talent even ignoring the big names, and crucially most of it isn’t techno anymore.

Even if stuff doesn't sound like what we'd consider the accepted definition of it, I think there's still a really strong presence of the original spirit of Detroit techno – that link to Afrofuturism and an almost militant aversion to commerciality. Using technology to reflect the environment. I think that's why you can't mimic it.

I think he used to live near their studios when he had a residency at Plastic People, from memory. My first London flat was right by it but I never saw him so I can't verify this pointless anecdote unfortunately.

Here's a change of pace. Some 70s Brazilian musica by way of Belarus. It's one of the best albums I've heard this year, hands down. If you like Badbadnotgood, Stereolab, Arthur Verocai and all that shit you'll be in heaven.

Bumper day for albums, Phoenix, rROXYMORE & Daniel Avery all have new ones out :)

Gave Phoenix a listen. Winter Solstice is already a top tier Phoenix tune for me, beautiful song. The rest of it I need to give more time but it'll no doubt grow on me like Ti Amo did.

I mean it’s really really good. What’s going on with indie bands this year, they’re on fire.

They get better with every album. I loved the last one, but with the exception of Forget About Life all the good stuff was on the first side. This new album seems more consistent. Velveteen is my current favourite.

Yeah it’s superb. So hard to pick favourites because they’re all so strong, but Easy On Your Own? Many Mirrors, Belinda Says, Tom Verlaine - so many classic songs.

I absolutely love this album. I think when people try and borrow that Southern California studio sound of the '70s it can fall a bit flat as they get the palette right, but not the complexity of the music. These guys just totally nail it every time. Rolling Back is the pick of the bunch.
