Mario Kart 9 (Switch Pro ?) - Don't Get Too Excited (yet)

I know some people got cross when we went a bit early with the Switch Pro thread, and it turned out to just be a new kickstand and better screen, but let's get excited again as the stories are emerging about this being in development (obviously) and having a new 'twist'.

I'm not sure I need a new twist as would just be happy with 20 more tracks in that glorious art style and 60fps engine from MK8, but Nintendo always seem to attempt something with this to elevate it, even if it's met with differing levels of acclaim.

With MK8 still being one of the top selling titles globally last year and never slowing down I don't feel this will come to the current gen of Switch (despite the massive installed user base).

My suspicion is it will be a launch title for whatever comes next. Don't see Nintendo venturing into VR as it's still too clunky an experience with wires and not mass market enough for them.

Right folks, time to get angry at the early thread or make your predictions - we know literally nothing but that has never stopped a new thread in the past.

It has to be full Nintendo Kart now surely. MK8 had non-mario characters, so they might as well move towards a smash type setup. I want to race as Captain Olimar through a Pikmin world.

well it had the word in it so I'll give you that, but don't really consider crappy stereoscopic 3d that made a lot of people nauseous true VR. It was as VR as the 3DS was.

Been absolutely caning Mario Kart Tour on the phone. Some of the courses on that are wild, top tier Mario Kart courses. Would loved to have played something like this on console, minus the roulettes. They might nick the progression, combo and scoring system from it, but only for single player. Can’t fuck with the purity of MP with that shit.

Whatever they do I hope the rubber banding and blue shells are even more aggressive.

Also they did VR with Labo as well, I’m not sure how good it was as I have never tried it.

Super Smash Kart, the reinvention of Mario kart, to be all Nintendo and friends franchises and all Nintendo and friends courses.

I mean, they really need to do this. Most of the fringe Mario characters are crap, and the Zelda/F-Zero etc DLC tracks for MK8 were cool.

that does look incredible, even allowing for the liberties lifestyle advertising take with the homes people live in playing the Switch 'their way' I can't see them having 4 full size hydraulic carts lined up in a loft apartment as 2 perfect parents and 2 perfect kids all play MK9 in full VR.

so after all the previous variations being track based with twists wonder about a persistent world like Burnout Paradise or Forza Horizon for this, add a lot more CARPG elements in, events all over the mushroom kingdom. that could be cool if done with Nintendo flair.

Mario Kart Tour Deluxe, because, secretly, Mario Kart Tour is really really good.

Mario Kart Tour persistent challenge, single player mode and progression, frenzies and individualised powerups, and most importantly - combos and scoring.
