There was mention of this in the D+ thread a while back. AFAIK, it's not any kind of reboot or anything, but exists alongside the movies. Chance of Cage making a guest appearance?

The main character is a 20 year old a Hispanic Latina-American played by Lisette Alexis. A DREAMer exploring mysterious family history. Now Catherine Zeta-Jones has signed on as another main character, a billionaire black-market antiquities expert and treasure hunter.

Are the films worth a watch?

I genuinely love them.  Easygoing fun, sort of film you can watch over and over.  Good characters and the music stands out too.  I agree the first is better than the second but I do enjoy both.  Nic Cage is great in them.

The one plot point that always pissed me off:

Spoiler

Nicholas Cage kidnaps the President to get the location of some book, despite the President being very open to chatting about that stuff and happily giving him the location anyway. So why didn’t he just try asking the president instead of kidnapping him? Fucking dummy.

And then similarly, the President is quite happy to let him go but tells him he’ll be a wanted man or whatever - why couldn’t the president just tell secret service they’d got stuck and Ben had helped find a way out? The whole thing would have been a non-issue. He’s a fucking dummy, too

I think both (especially the first) are underrated classics.

They are massively rewatchable - and have a good cast that have great chemistry with each other.

I know the third movie was a go ahead again but i can't seem to find out about it's progress. Hoping the TV series is good but i'm not sure if they will be aiming for the same audience? I hope so.

Made it through the first episode despite almost quitting right at the start when some goon said "no one metheth with thalathar".. with all the menace of Keith Chegwin.

But I bailed in the second episode when the lead's friend, who was already incredibly annoying whips out the laptop to do some hacking* ... nah, this is proper shite.

Don't waste your fucking time.

Spoiler

She doesn't do any hacking, because she appears to get hacked herself straight away, but that's not the point. And I did not care to watch any further.

Yeah, the fact this just popped up on Disney+ with absolutely zero fanfare (considering the first two were pretty big films), plus having been burned by Willow, it just made me think this was going to be shite.

You can sort of see why the CEO was fired, Disney seem to have a knack of taking potential franchise fodder and throwing it down the toilet when making Disney+ content. (Pity, as The Wonder Years, The Santa Clause and Home Alone extended universes should have been amazing).
