Got to 31 minutes with Antonio of all people, and then proceed to use the mad groove arcana to get crimson shroud and infinite corridor to finally shred death for the first time.

 

I know a lot of people go on about alternatives that follow the same reverse bullet hell formula (I know, because I play HoloCure and think the moment-to-moment gameplay is more mechanically engaging), but the one thing that Vampire Survivors really nails is the long tail expansion and goalposting that it offers.

 

Going from struggling with a guy with a whip for 30 minutes to 15 minute, triple speed runs using full-screen evolved weapon explosions to murder everything including the thing that's supposed to end your run is a really great feeling of progress, rivaling that of one of my favourite ever games, Katamari Damacy of all things. It's ace, and it's really turned me around on it amongst its clones.

Been enjoying this a lot. Put in 7-8 hours. What's the end point your supposed to get to? Once you've completed 30-minute runs with a few characters what do you do next? Just keep playing it till you've completed all the levels with all the characters?

Tanked the frame rate down to sub 30 on my steam deck and I can now see the green code of the Matrix.

This is fast becoming my most payed game this year, something strangely addictive about it that I can't quite put my finger on.

 

Have upgraded most of the basic weapons by pairing them with their evos, got cocky and checked the collection and i've not even unlocked 50% of the items haha... long way to go which is fine with me!

Managed to complete all trophies, secrets and unlocks in this now. Was a lot of fun.

 

Not sure if it’s my buggy save but I spotted something about the Random character. His health just seems to almost double level by level, so eventually you can end up with infinite health around level 150.

 

If you mix this with the tarot card that gives you a damage boost on the difference between your current health and your maximum, then you end up being an invincible, instant killer.

I'm not sure it's for me. The twenty minutes I was playing might be the most bored I've been with a game in years. I'll give it another two or three runs to see if it somehow grabs me, but if the gameplay is just 'walk around avoiding enemies and collecting gems/coins while your character shoots' for the whole game, I doubt I'll persevere.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but the game pass cloud version has touch controls.

The Xbox version has a Quit Game button on the title screen that I have accidentally clicked on way too many times.

I’ve had to stop playing this…I’m finding when I’m half awake in the morning and trying to doze my mind is playing images of jewels being collected.

I've cut down my playtime because of this exact same issue and cos I'm nearly done with it all.  

 

Only played it a few hrs Sunday but yeah crazy shit with eyes closed in bed Sunday night.

I'm just enjoying futzing about and unlocking stuff. It's stupid how cheap this game is. I'm currently in a place where triple A story based stuff doesn't appeal to me in the slightest and I'm absolutely hammering games that are the exact opposite. This game provides so much happy brain juice.

Haven't even launched the new COD since Vampire Survivors came to Gamepass, and now I feel like I'll have dropped too far behind in COD to ever catch up again. £100 game absolutely trounced by a £4 indie game. Even though I'm fully aware that VS is deliberately honking my dopamine horn, there's still something reassuringly unpretentious and authentic about it which is a big part of the appeal. No nothing apart from gameplay. I don't think I want to listen to any story dialogue or watch a cutscene in a game ever again.

 

Hope they never fancy up the visuals or add anything superfluous that detracts from its homely BBC Micro-esque purity.

Totally broke the game earlier with my loadout. 

 

Was running at about half a frame per second, no enemies spawning and I could walk through the boundary in the library. 

 

Had to quit out. Never had a situation like that in the 80 hours input into it on Steam deck. 

 

I'm going for all the achievements and have 950 points so far but there's a couple of relics that should unlock but are not. No idea how to sort it.

Absolute carnage there, I thought I'd had some crazy builds but that takes the cake. How did you get 7 weapons? The only time I've seen that happen is when certain weapons evolve and add a new form rather than replacing the old one

Once you've unlocked the candybox it can appear in chests, allowing you to pick another weapon even if you've already go 6.

I think the death storm thing glitch and something is going wrong when using the Blood Astronomia Arcana. I stop leveling up, most of the enemies dissapear, and I can fly through walls!

Got the Great Gospel from very slowly killing the guy in Capella Magna.

 

Then tried the new whip guy from the same level and died within ten minutes. I blame the fact it was ten at night and I really wanted to finish the run before the deck ran out of battery.

Thanks - I unlocked the character with candybox but I don't think I've ever seen it appear in the wild.

I'll repeat myself. I unlocked it but it's only ever appeared once. It's a rare drop.

Before I restarted, I'd mostly moved to aggressively limiting the number of weapons and turning on limit break, so I'd probably have been annoyed if it actually had turned up for me!
