And what's the deal with the cards? I've found about six now but can only seem to activate one at the start of each run, despite there being three slots, by the look of it.

You get the second and third activation from chests that drop from mini-bosses.  Since the most recent updates these chests are coloured purple rather than the regular brown.  They are also time gated so won't drop til you are roughly one third and two thirds through the overall 30 minute run

Thanks. Are those permanent activations, or just for that run?

And I've cleared all the basic stages now, as well as a handful of the bonus stages. Should I just keep going to unlock more stuff? Is it possible to hit credits, or do you just keep going?

Yes, there is still lots of stuff to unlock. There are credits and there is also lots to do after the credits too.

Depends on starting character but I'd have these 4.

Whip and Hollow Heart

Axe and Candelabor

Fire Wand and Spinach

King Bible and Spellbinder

With either Santa Water or Garlic.

Don't think you have access to rings or metaglio yet?

Poe starts with Garlic, if you have him. Otherwise, one of the others that starts with a thing you want?

Great thanks both

You need a character who has a reliable area attack, like the whip. The key to completing it is moving and dodging while picking up chickens as best you can, so you don’t want randomised attacks.

Just did this on my second go with the wand woman 😃

There's a

Spoiler

Rosary

at the end which nukes everything.

As mentioned previously, I’d recommend whip for the early stages. Damage output is decent and if you find your energy is dwindling or you need to level up it’s good for protecting in front and behind you early on. Thus allowing your health to regain or a stack of XP to pile up.

Its evolution is where it shines though. Bloody Tear sees an increase in damage output but more importantly it returns health for every hit it makes.

If you’re running garlic or Santa Water it picks off most things that make it through those defences whilst giving you health.

My "just get to 30 mins" basic build is always King Bible, Lightning ring, Santa Water, Whip, Fire wand, Runetracer with the corresponding upgrade item. Prioritise getting King Bible evolved.

Not the most spectacular or damaging, but easy to get and everything synergises well.

What's the deal with the fifth level where

Spoiler

your weapons, bar your starting one, get taken from you? I got to the post 30 minute boss using the garlic guy, by the skin of my teeth, then got up to 40 minutes and the fucking boss just did not want to die. After that I tried with bible bro but got overwhelmed at about minute 28, annoyingly; even with the bible evolution, the high level enemies can break through the barrier.

Is there a recommended weapon to use? It needs to be something with high DPS but that can also protect you from damage by itself.

Just realised that I only had one weapon because I set the max number of weapons to 1 by accident. Fucking dick head

I tried that three times last night with different characters!

How do you get to level 807?!

How's that done, then?

Once you’ve worked through some (most) of the unlock list, there are some end game characters and abilities that can be combined (much like the early game loop, only moreso).  plus, the final character you unlock is overpowered.

Putting together a few weapons and Arcana powers results in absurd amounts of extra enemies, damage and gold  (By the time you can do a stupidly high lvl / gold run, you’ve done pretty much everything the game has to offer, so it’s there for the fun of it).

That build was -

Spoiler

Queen Sigma with three weapon slots -

- Starting weapon

- Greatest Jubilee

- Lightning Ring

(+ Vicious Hunger from Super Candybox)

- Tome for weapon cooldown

- Candleabrador for increased weapon area

- Stone Mask for increased gold

- Attractorb for gathering gems

- Crown for increased XP

- Torrona’s Box for increased enemies and weapon damage

- 2 x Rings and Metaglio

Arcana -

- Wicked Season for XP & extra mobs

- Silent Old Sanctuary for damage increase

- Boogaloo of Illusion for extra weapon area
- Disco of Gold for gold

in terms of best passive weapons, the Tome is always worth getting as it reduces cooldown so much.  More bang bang!

Oh, I don’t think they stay on that level because you don’t need them as there’s no red reaper, you just fight the amalgam one you can destroy with any build.

Yep, that was it. I don't think I had made minute 30 on this level before. Worked a treat and I now have the gospel. Cheers @ZOK

This is honestly becoming one of my favourite games I have ever played, and my first gaming memory is on the Atari 2600. I never seem to get bored of playing it, it seems so simple but it's so satisfying to hold off those hordes of monsters at 29 minutes,

Got all the achievements and feel a bit grubby really. As much as I really enjoyed my time with the game I am somewhat relieved I’ve completed it (from a worthless achievement POV).

Last game that I had a similar relationship with was Hades.
