Read about the quest online to refresh my memory.

Spoiler

So you should have encountered an enemy in Nokstella, somewhere in between the start point where you find the doll and the elevator that goes down to the open area with the giant ants and their riders.

After you picked up the doll, did you see any new options when you sat at a Grace? Try that a few times and you should get the dialogue that will trigger that fight.

Alright, I think I’ve untangled it now, thanks! My instincts were right about that location then.

Spoiler

I would never have found the way forward in a million years, after having explored that area thoroughly and clearing the major threats long ago I would only have used the grace as a warp point, and then having to notice the tiny option to talk to the doll as well? It was never happening.

I still thought I had missed something as she said I had to kill the shadows in the area, so I thought new enemies were going to appear but nothing did. I just kept advancing and at each grace I got a new bit of dialogue, until I reached the spot I was already suspicious of and saw the new enemy standing there.

I logged off before starting, saving the fight for later.

It’s probably stupid but I feel like I’ve spoiled the game a little every time I need to seek outside help.

With most of that now behind me, I have recently been doing some exploring of areas I thought I was finished with as there are some gaps in my early game stuff.

I did find a cave I had not come across before in Caelid/Sellia…

Spoiler

and inside it was a sealed magical door. The door tells me that a seal breaker is required. The messages from players tell me to ‘seek sorceror’.

I’ve checked all the sorcerors I have met to no avail, and now I have a horrible feeling that the sorceror in question is Seluvis, because he is dead.

Can I get a simple yes or no answer so I don’t waste my time on a fruitless endeavour -

Spoiler

Do you get the required item from Seluvis? Am I going to have to wait for NG+?

@5R7 No I’m not sure, only made it one spoiler level down lol. Is that just the name of a place you’ve posted? Can you give me the general area? Like Liurnia, Caelid, Altus or whatever?

I got massively frustrated last night after making no progress, but I know I’ll regret it if I don’t solve this myself.

New messages on the ground told me to “seek master, old dear” which with who I have met so far can only mean Sellen. Sellen’s not talking. Other messages in that cave told me ‘teacher ahead’ with a gesture pointing at nothing. I went back to explore the academy (because that’s where magic happens) and realized I hadn’t fully explored below the blightown-esque elevator, so did that but none of the loot items I found helped me out.

You are on the right track and eventually she is who you’ll need to talk to, but there are other masters in the world and until you find a particular one she won’t say anything to you. I actually think her quest is one of the hardest to do, it’s got a few bits that are just awkward.

Very vague area spoiler for the person you need to find.

Spoiler

They like it hot.

less vague, but still not exactly narrowing it down to where specifically.,

Spoiler

They’re in Mt Gelmir, but that’s quite a big area..

I left it alone for now, figure I will get to the right point eventually. Although my record for quests so far is not good - I have found key items for several of the summonable NPC quests after already beating the boss fights they are supposed to help out on (confirmed in jolly co-op).

My NG+ is going to be mostly ‘do it again, in the right order this time’.

Different from my usual questions this time - how do I submit a bug report? I found a boss that can be made to die without touching it.

Spoilers for if you went to Altus plateau by the long way…

Spoiler

When you climb the cliff side and push on past the abandoned coffin grace, you encounter a 4 winged lightning dragon called Lansseax (or something). After fighting it and doing a little bit of damage, it flies off and doesn’t come back.

Last night I met it again in a new location, and it was still showing the damage I had done in our last meeting. I was not expecting the dragon to appear, so I backed up and fell off a small cliff to change my gear. That put me out of range and the boss HP bar went away. When I got back in range, the damage I had done before was applied again, doubling it. In the course of the fight I lost contact with the HP bar several times (I was trying to do ranged combat), and each time it came back the damage from our first meeting was cumulatively applied again. When I realized I was going to be robbed of an epic fight I tried to run in to fight it in melee, but as soon as I was within range it dropped dead.

That sucks, and I hope it gets fixed before my second play through because it was actually hard to prevent it from happening. Unless you can go toe to toe without needing a tactical retreat it’ll mess up the fight.

  • 4 months later...

This thread has gone a bit obsolete but as I’m not finished yet I’m still reluctant to look in the main thread lol.

I’m now 460 hours in on my first play, with a bunch of quests left hanging and a couple of unused key items - I think I inadvertently crossed a point of no return after a recent boss fight as now a lot of the NPCs have either disappeared or stopped talking.

I decided to go back to earlier areas and search from top to bottom for anything I missed - started with Stormveil Castle and did actually discover that I had missed a route to the highest towers. Found a new talisman but nothing quest related.

After doing that one area I’m coming around to just starting fresh in NG+, as the map is so large and there is so much ground I would need to cover, plus I have made some obvious mistakes that may have broken the quests anyway so there are no guarantees that more exploration is even the answer.

It’s annoying as I wanted to do as much as possible in the first game, but not at the expense of spoiling the fun of discovering it by myself.

One exception to that though, there is only one shardbearer left to fight and I don’t want to face that fight at a higher difficulty in NG+ if I can help it.

So can anyone tell me if I’m screwed on that front or if I still have a chance in this game?

Spoiler

It’s Miquella. I fought Mohg a long time ago, before Malenia, and I’ve been waiting for that cocoon to do something ever since. It looks kind of dead. I didn’t want to put the cart before the horse so I just pressed on with the game hoping the answer would reveal itself.

That led me to Maliketh, and after killing him every other quest I had open appears to have been broken. I left the ash covered Leyndell to go and try and finish as many as I could but it looks like it was a point of no return.

The thing that really worries me is that Gideon has now gone, and his daughter left some loot which implies she’s not coming back. He was the one telling me to find and kill the Shardbearers. Miquella’s cocoon has not changed.

Just looking for a vague (no specifics please!) pointer on whether to give up, carry on, or go back…

Spoiler

Miquella is just part of the lore. Malenia is the blade of Miquella (and his sister) and part of another quest.

I'm pretty sure that beating Maliketh only locks you from one "main" side quest

Spoiler

Goldmask

So if the others aren't available, then you had already missed their progression before beating him.

There's a specific weapon in the pre-Maliketh version of Leyndell that you'll be locked out of if you haven't already collected it and It's needed for 100% but all other areas should be open. Not sure which Shardbearer you have left to fight without knowing who you have already beaten :)

Spoiler

But there are only 7 in the game and Miquella isn't one of them

The Ashen version of Leyndell is most definitely the end game part and don't worry about Gideon

@Darwock

I found NG+ to be way easier than NG until the very late areas. I breezed through it in about 40 hours vs 160 for NG

Thanks for that, I was going by Gideon’s information and the fact I still have two boss trophies yet to unlock, and assuming that was one of them. It’s quite possible I have beaten all the Shardbearers then… come to think of it I don’t think there are any divine towers left I haven’t been to.

I have beaten 7:

Spoiler

Godrick

Radahn

Rennala (yes I know)

Rykard

Morgott

Mohg

Malenia

Basically I don’t want to miss any optional bosses. Unfortunately I have locked out the quest you mentioned, but if you say that’s the only one that gets broken it means

Spoiler

there is still a new body for Sellen out there somewhere that I haven’t found.

If you've got all the Boss Trophies so far apart from 2 then you may have missed one

Spoiler

Did you fight any other boss in CFA before Maliketh? Did you finish Ranni's quest and also Fia's? Those are the only ones that spring to mind

As for Sellen, you can break that quest fairly early as

Spoiler

it overlaps with the quests for Ranni and Seluvis (which overlap with each other)

Seluvis also ties in with the Dung Eater and Nepheli Loux quests

Depending on some choices made, you'll get locked out of one or more of them. There are ways around this but you're beyond that now (I think)

But as Alask says above, good luck without a guide!

Not all the quests lead to a boss fight and some only affect the ending

Fia:

Spoiler

Definitely finished I would say, I got the mending rune of death anyway.

Ranni:

Spoiler

Quite likely not finished, as I didn’t feel any satisfying conclusion. I haven’t seen her in months, but the last time I did we got married, then she abandoned her doll body and went off somewhere. Can’t remember exactly what she said.

The miniature Ranni is now described as a lifeless husk, but despite that I was still able to talk to it from the grace in Ranni’s rise a few nights ago. She just talked about her vision of the new world.

Looking at your spoiler, I’m not very optimistic as the following people are already dead/gone in my game:

Spoiler

Seluvis

Dung Eater (I got his mending rune)

Nepheli

Is the Ranni quest a dud now then?

Is the Ranni quest a dud now then?

Spoiler

Ranni quest is complete when you marry her. Astel was the boss trophy for that one.

Dung Eater & Fia are also complete if you have their Mending Runes (when I say complete, they do have an alternate ending where you don't get the Mending Runes and also tie into other quests). Only Fia has a Boss Trophy though for Lichdragon Fortissax which gives you her Mending Rune.

You don't get a trophy for the final boss, just one of the game complete ones depending on what you do after the fight.

Seluvis & Nepheli are lore quests and have no impact on the endings and have no boss fights. Best to check a guide for these though as they also have alternate quest endings and Seluvis affects Sellen's quest (and also the Nepheli and Dung Eater quests)

Goldmask/Corhyn I presume is gone (have a nosy around the base of the cliffs in the Ashen Capital where Goldmask was, just to be sure)

Quests that affect the ending...

Really don't read if you don't want this spoiled

Spoiler

Default Ending - No Quests required - 1 Trophy

Fia, Goldmask & Dung Eater - One ending each - Same Trophy as above

Ranni & Hyetta - One ending each - 1 Trophy each and both Trophies are different to the above which you won't get if you do either of these endings.

You can't get all of them on one playthrough (minimum 3 playthroughs for the Trophies unless you save scum) and you also get to choose which ending you want if you have filled the conditions. Except for one quest which locks you out of all other endings.

If you list the Boss Trophies that you have I can work out who you have missed without spoiling too much lol

The only missable ones I can think of are

Spoiler

Dragonlord Placidusax and Elemer of the Briar

Cheers, that helps a lot (but I’m not going to open the last two spoilers yet)

The trophies that are still locked are the two directly above the God Slaying Armament one.

I suppose it’s possible they are not boss trophies, but as they follow on from all the shardbearer trophies I figured they probably are.

How many trophies do you have left in total?

If you've done everything (with regards to trophies), when you arrive at the Ashen Capital you should have 5 left including the ending. One of those is the 100% Trophy. Plus the God Slaying Armament Trophy and one each for the Legendary Armaments, Ashes, Sorceries & Incantations and Talismans.

I still have 6…

(actually 7 as I haven’t found the legendary talismans yet)

You've definitely missed something then lol. Did you fight the optional hidden boss with 2 heads in CFA before Maliketh? Have you completed Volcano Manor? Shaded Castle?

From what you say I think I missed a boss in CFA then. I thought I explored the shit out of that place.

Spoiler

I fought the Godskin Duo, does that count as two heads? I don’t think it was optional.

Volcano Manor is also not entirely complete, there’s one door still locked and a bunch of loot across a room that I can’t get to.

Spoiler

This is one of the things I had decided to put off until NG+ because I definitely screwed up a few things; killing Rykard before finishing the Recusant quests, euthanizing the snake lady, etc that could easily be what’s preventing me from getting there. Without googling for answers I could end up cycling around expecting to find a solution that isn’t currently there. Like I did with Miquella.

Spoiler

Rykard is the end of Volcano Manor, the Resucant stuff is lore and ties into other quests (Jar Bairn, Rya, Diallos and Patches) and there's a hidden wall in the Manor

Godskin Duo are mandatory but there's a big one hidden away in CFA :)

Directions

Spoiler

From the Great Bridge Site of Grace, go down the elevator. Run past or kill the enemy and head outside to the edge of the cliff. You should be able to navigate down some floating platforms. When you get to the bottom you'll need to lie down and have a rest ;)

Thanks very much, I guess I’m going back then. Shudder.

One more thing about the Manor…

Spoiler

Is it possible to open all the doors/get all the loot regardless of any NPCs that may or may not be dead on my account? I’ll go back and explore it again if so.

Happy to help :)

You should be able to go back and finish the rest of the Manor. I think the loot you mentioned will need Stonesword Keys to access and (I think) there is one door that you just can't open.

Spoiler

If Tanith is no longer there, pay a visit to Rykard's SoG if you haven't already gone back there after defeating him (this might depend on the Resucant stuff though)

Give her a few pokes with your sword when you get there. When you're done go look for someone just outside the Boss door at the Shaded Castle (again this might depend on a specific Resucant Invasion that was given by this NPC)
