If you cared about art, you'd spend time championing the art you enjoyed rather than belittling people for enjoying the art you don't care for. When I was young, I also thought it was important to define my aesthetic sensibility in opposition to other people's - in time I came to understand that this was a counter-productive approach.

Your attitude here is condescending, self-important, and not half as clever as you think it is.

Oh fuck off, is this a joke? What are you on about? People on here are alright but for some reason completely fall apart when it comes to crticism of something they like, brain just melts. Just bizarre extrapolating based on an irritation i don't care for that morphs into weird character interpreting i also don't care for. The irony that i'm apparently belittling people in a thread of a racing game i love. Sorry people are fragile but this is a public discussion forum and as I've said before, developers act as basically gatekeepers because making games is so impossibly difficult. Learning Blender and Unity to a degree you can make something substantial might as well be wanting to be an astronaut. I keep saying i'll try but i'm not a billion dollar company that has specialised in making videogames for 40 years and has access to the capabilities of thousands of ultra talented programmers so yeah it's hard.

I don't think I'm clever but i do think people can be dense as fuck. Nintendo are a big company if you've not noticed and for a long time there's been clamour for a new F Zero after 19 years since the last one. The alternative futuristic racers from new developers don't understand simplicity is key, and like a lot of amateur try hard stuff, there's often no personality, no precise vision, no grip on what the direction should be, and the results are flabby convoluted messes that are more like technical showcases than refined and slick. Or maybe that's not giving them the credit for realising that and just wanting to do something of their own, but they're forgettable and always near identical so i'm going with they don't have clarity in their design choices. And the sheer difficulty of making anything is so overwhelming anyway.

So er a port of F Zero X is in the context of this 19 year wasteland for the genre. The 'insult' is by Nintendo are far as I'm concerned, not that people are playing my favourite racer. I'm still catching up on how peoples minds work because they seem so fucking stupid, there's no more purity in different emulators, unofficial or official, the annoyance as Rubber Johnny has probably pointed out a thousands times over the years is how nostalgia is mined and gamers lap it up as though it's meaningful. It's like, i dunno, your football club doing things that could be positive in one sense but it being clear the direction is completely lacking in another sense.

I can take or leave Mario Kart 8 and I have never played F-Zero X.

Your opinions just seem a bit insufferable. People are "fucking stupid" now because they don't agree with you? I'm not sure I'm the fragile one.

I'm not sure that not making a sequel to a series of games that had never sold very well is an "insult". F-Zero fans being vocal about how they're going to buy a new game doesn't amount to much if there's twenty of us and 30 million who would buy Mario Kart instead.

This isn't rocket science.

And I’m sure that’s one of the things that influenced the simple visual design. Having too much detail would hammer the frame rate, make it more difficult to follow the track and make a random track generator far more difficult to create.

It was a great compromise by Nintendo when everyone was clamouring for more sun glare and other such nonsense.

lolwhut, you don't care about Mario Kart 8 and have never played F Zero X?? Why are you posting in here? So you can't possibly have anything to add then? Except commenting on describing how my posts come across on a game you haven't played before and another you don't care about. Thanks, stranger on the internet for describing how I come across when talking passionately about something i perhaps embarassingly care about when you couldn't care less, what an appropiate use of your time. Is this just following on from real life way of being, when your manager or whatever gives his opinion on something he's passionate about and you go 'Mike, you're being a bit insufferable there'. Just...a tip for you. How can anyone describe others without supposing they're better, i think that's the most insufferable thing anyone can be really. How am i supposed to take a stranger on the internet thinks my opinions on things he doesn't care about are insufferable, what am I supposed to do with that? How would you even know when you don't understand the subject? Maybe if you did you'd think differently? Do people ever consider that? When it's others being the self important ones? It's not about right or wrong but other perspectives?

This feels like when Stopharage called Frank Lampard Fat Frank and people were like; that's a bit immature do we need to resort to this, and i said 'i know right and he's a politics professor!' and i noticed months later him getting noticeably unreasonably angry at something silly i was saying. It was only meant as a joke.

pointless on a forum which exists for others to give opinions. Any alternative opinions are always going to be in the minority, and as people are petrified of negativity/criticism you get a decade of how people responded to Smitty.

For clarity -and the fragility or sensitivty right now is people thinking 'oh no, this is meant to be a happy fun positive thread you're ruining it again stop it', and i am aware fragility veers too close to 'snowflake' for people, i word i despise- I gave one opinion on the topic title, Nintendo doing this now, and the excited response from fans. Whatever the language used, that's just caring, not being sensitive. The sensitivty comes from the reaction calling me a neckbeard, the inability to handle criticism. Someone else brought up Mario Kart 8. The 'stupidity' was apparently genuinely supposing criticising MK8 is trying to 'spoil peoples fun'. The other stupidity was going on about purity which makes no sense when talking about emulation. I don't play F Zero X on my laptop using Project 64 having a problem with the increased sharpness, wishing i could play it all blurry on a curved screen again. The denseness is somehow missing the 19 years of Nintendo ignoring the franchise, the genre being effectively dead or at least its potential not being fulfilled, and thinking all criticism is about me picking at people enjoying a game i love. All these posts about F Zero X are great to read that focus on the game, and not just false ecstacy.

So what follows usually around at this point is they'll be loads of people jumping in going 'oh my god you're so borinnggg shut uppp'', with nothing to add of their own.

I use a forum where most seem to be on high wages, there are lawyers, teachers, professors, journalists, authors, experts in a lot of fields who often post informing on something they know about or have read. It's not really possible for me to think i'm 'clever' amongst all of you, come on. The only way i can post is valueing whatever angle i'm at based on thinking more about it. So even this post isn't being 'self important' but digging deeper. The 'numbed by apathy' language around Mario Kart 8 isn't a criticism of peoples enjoyment of the game but the reaction to a different perspective. We don't fully understand the universe, black holes, whether we really are living in a simulation, do we even properly understand the brain, and yet, and yet...minds explode at the mere concept of Mario Kart 8 not being the pinnacle of the genre. That amazed me, what amazed me more was how dismissive people were, unbelievably that grates. The funniest was someone supposing i'd played the game at a mates and shat out some hair brained thoughts based on that. People could have just said 'oh right, yeah i thought the game was perfect but maybe there is something more the genre can be, all the qualities of the game can be seen as negatives from another perspective, that is feasible, you seem to care about this i'll respect that'. If people can't give even a little bit of respect, fuck toning down language. Things could spin off into ideas, why can't they? If you're secure in your love of something, there is no needling. I can't accept something representing the peak of its genre when the genre in its infancy*.

I can't accept that in the same way if a Coldplay or Ed Sheeran fan when it's suggested to them there is more to music than this them going NO THIS IS THE PEAK I CAN'T SEE PAST THEM BET YOU ONLY THINK THIS BECAUSE YOU HEARD ED IN A SHOP YOU NEED THE SURROUND SOUND EXPERIENCE TO FULLY GET HIS BRILLIANCE. I don't mind Ed, he's bland but he's not trying to anything but that. There are many alternatives in music, there isn't in games in this genre, i don't understand why this is difficult for people to appreciate.

*Despite the decades, that's how it is, that's the broader point. Technology has allowed for more track clutter of stuff that don't mean anything or add anything. These genres have ridiculous potential. It was evident when user created content on Trials Evolution showed the depth of creativity just novices can achieve on a 2d plane with bikes, when the track is flipping from off screen to land as you approach that's an idea i've never seen before, that's the creator taking the bikes drive left to right format and reimagining it. It's not just 'yeah lets build a big bright airport people like airports don't they? well they don't but they're pillars of civilisation aren't they? families go on holiday don't they? especially middle class ones who can afford it, we could go abstract and weird but lets instead just present what is familiar to people'.

I've spent an inordinate amount of time on the internet talking positively about stuff, Metroid Prime, Joy Division, Radiohead, Venetian Snares, Messi, Iniesta, Gunstar Heroes, GTA 3, Autechre, Aphex Twin, Man United for some reason dunno why, Ozarc, Resident Evil 4, photography, Licorice Pizza. Obviously you feel confident enough despite not knowing that lecturing me on what i ought to do. The irony being also, i wrote a stupid amount on what the kart racing genre can be, it like crystalises what you want when something gets so much wrong, you can just accept what's given easily.

To bring this back to F Zero, i've been playing GX recently and it's interesting only 5 years and a console jump in power separates them yet it's so different, the music, graphics, style, tone. Sega not wanting to be trapped by what F Zero was but use it to do what they wanted, and with that it has a distinct personality. I prefer X gameplay wise, music wise, visual style wise, but it just shows the flexibility of the essence of something.

The urge to dunk on this is strong, but I think it speaks for itself really.

Oh dear, how arrogant is this. 'The urge' being 'I have nothing at all to say'. What does it speak of, ChewMagma, stranger on the internet, educate me.

There's a whole thing on the internet of people commenting on others opinions with fuck all to add, apparently unaware forums are about discussion and opinions.

I think you make a lot of great posts, but come on, you’re probably going a little over the top here. Relax the analyses.

By the way, I only wrote ‘emulation is for scrubs’ because I thought it was funny to write ‘scrubs’.

You post a lot for someone who doesn't care for the responses. At risk of poking the bear, I feel you have a need to get the last word. That's highly unlikely on the internet, where so many others have that same problem.

I generally use the air breaks to maintain grip.

You should be using the double-tap or ZL or R for a side attack that will deliberately murder anyone with Rival above their head. They'll get 0 points for that race.

You also get a tiny bit of health back for each murder and an extra life for killing five.

They’ve not been killed, you’ve just persuaded them to retire, right?

RIGHT?

I don’t need that on my conscience.

Ideally I'd like to see F-Zero X get an upgraded port in the same vein as SEGA AGES Virtua Racing. Keep the visuals as simple and clean as they are, up the res and performance. Add the Xpansion's trackbuilder and include CPU racers in multiplayer (or have 30 racers online if possible).

Goddamn this needs to happen. Who do we have to kill to make this happen?
