This is great n all. Like REALLY great. But those graphics, ffs. I hate that style so much. Dammit, don't do this to me Ron, not like this!

 

Pixel artists all over the world must surely be screaming into their monitors right now.

🤷‍♂️ I think it looks great! But then I also thought Knights and Bikes looked great (and indeed Tearaway, though that's a bit of a different thing), so I clearly enjoy Rex Crowle's art direction generally.

 

(also, given Monkey Island 2 was famously the point at which Lucasarts began to move away from pixel art — being, IIRC, the first time they used scanned paintings for all background art — this isn't really the series for pixel art celebrants!)

I am all over this. I still think Curse was great, and the Tales series had some moments to it. I never got past the first hour or so of Escape.

 

But this is the real deal. I love the art too, lfg.

Nope. Pixel art is shit. :P

 

I'm happy with the art style from that trailer, and also happy Murray is back!

I’ve been meaning to replay Monkey Island 1&2 for years, sounds like I’d better get on with it.

 

This is amazing news. I’m slightly cautious as to whether it’ll be able to live up to expectations, and I’m interested to see what it looks like - if it’s a direct sequel to Monkey Island 2, I feel like they’d almost need to make sure the art is of a piece with the original. Not in the sense of having 320x200 res graphics with 256 colours, but they’ll have to reference the original look somehow.

I’m so, so excited about this. Me and my wife were almost jumping up and down with happiness when we saw the announcement.

 

I love Monkey Island. One of my earliest and fondest gaming memories I have is sitting there with the 5-disc PC version of 2  with my older brother and going through it. No walkthroughs, no internet (was 1992), just a load of scribbles and notes.

 

I am 10 years younger than my brother and he never used to want to play games with me when I was a kid (can’t blame him, imagine I was pretty annoying most of the time 😂) but for whatever reason he decided the adventures of Guybrush would be good to co-operate on.

 

Have loved the series ever since. Has always felt like a founding reason for my love of gaming. The fact it’s coming back and it’s the mythical Ron Gilbert sequel he always wanted to make… amazing :).

I hope it's massive, like more than ten floppies worth 😋 seriously though, even though the majority of even the best ones peter out a bit (and the monkey Island originals famously have odd endings because they didn't know what to do) I don't think any point n click can ever be too long. Even the weird ones from Germany.
