Killzone footage.

If it's the same as the PSW footage then I wasn't that impressed. Enemies that barely react to the player, who don't even flinch when being shot and then fall over with a canned animation right through a wall. The camera leaning horribly when you reload and an awful shotgun which needs a leisurely 2 second reload animation after every damn shot!

I've just been spoilt by all the recent PC shooter demos raising the bar I guess... I really think we're getting to that stage again where the console versions of games (aside from the Xbox ones) are a shallow mockery of the PC originals.

Very impressive visuals for the PS2 but it desperately needs some colour and lighting. Compared with Far Cry, Halo II etc. it looks very flat, the animation and modeling looks great but it's too muddy.

I take it that the AI hasn't been coded yet judging by the way the player walked up to the NPC and gave him a faceful of lead without him even reacting?

I pressed play once more and I got some kind of stream of an interview withthe dev team... the sound guy cracked me up... he uses a piece of hover tube and a large stapler to make some of the in game gun reloading effects... v.funny. Looks great though, great atmosphere, although I fear the greyness of it all... fortunately it would seem that get a little more varied with the hues in other levels. Something to look forward too... hurrah!

Cheers

A demo was released in Portugal on the OPS2M there, so if anyone's deseperate to play it you could probably find it on Ebay or something.

That footage there is damn old from what I can tell... having not seen the actual video, just from what you've been saying.

Erm... if it's the same footage as in the link above, then it's not a shotgun, but an underslung grenade launcher on the assault rifle. It has a long reload, yes, but I don't think that's unreasonable.

Grey adds to the atmosphere. Just look at wargame Steel Battalion - very grey (orange in centrain levels). Far Cry is bright and fruity because the atmosphere must give the player the sense of a tropical island, not that of a war torn nation. Steel Battalion and Killzone are played in a warzone, so grey's the word

Shouldn't grenades go boom, or at least make some kind of effort to explode? If that's a grenade launcher then it's gonna' be about the most disappointing one in a game ever.

I've been very impressed with what I've played, pad issues aside. The reloads are long but that's a good thing for me, it forces you to think a little more about shooting. The enemies don't seem super bright but they don't fuck about either. To be honest, I'd say that AI is good when you don't really notice it and I haven't. It certainly doesn't seem stupid.

I'd say you should be looking forward to this if your are a PS2 sort and maybe even if you're not. It's no Halo 2 though, now is it?

If anyone gives a shit, World War Zero is suprisingly good if derivative. Really, really satisfying weapons but a bit too old skool in design decisions. It is a PC port though so...I dunno. Some great stuff in there.

Someone I know has played it, said it was brilliant.

I'm kinda looking forward to it but an FPS game with a PS2 controller really puts me off :(

So it'll have to be damn special.

yeah same here. alot of ps2 games that are FPS don't even allow you to totaly customize you're buttons. that REALLY pisses me off.

there was one bond game [i think the first one on ps2] and i couldn't find in the options where it was you inverted your look.

can anyone confirm that you can do this? its the simple things like this that piss me off about ps2 games.

Why are PS2 games the only offenders? Uncustomisable controls are not a result of the hardware.

"Mission objective added"

Sigh. Just once I'd like an FPS that just gave you a general objective ie. "capture and hold building A" rather than "go to point x. Retrieve gismo y. Take gismo y to point z. Oh no, route w is blocked/gismo y is broken" prescipted bollocks.

"We're expecting you sir..."

Christ. The bad guys are just round the corner. Why don't you just go round there and shoot them rather than waiting for a suitably high ranking officer to go in and do it for you.

Mind you these were the things that bothered me about the Halo single-player...
