Played 5mins of the demo on switch and switch it off because I was instantly sold on it and didn’t want to spoil anything.

Was the same for me on Steam Next Fest

Just waiting for my review to be published, but I loved it. One of my favourite games of the year so far.

Would you recommend the Switch or Steam version?

Edit: I guess in terms of if there are swipe style actions that would work well on a touch screen?

Where can we find it once published?

I played on Switch and I thought the controls worked really well. Things like circular motions and careful wine pouring seem made for an analogue stick (although if you have any left stick drift, that would likely ruin it), while the rest is button presses.

Lovely game, it looks gorgeous, but is it my advancing years, or is it quite difficult though?

It's worth practicing some tricks a few times before trying them for real, and sometimes even noting down sequences and signals so you don't have to remember them all. But once you've got the hang of a trick it's no usually difficult to nail it consistently, I found.

There are difficulty levels, if you need.

I was absolutely loving this - like, high on my personal GOTY list in a year that has already been fairly stacked with f greats - however, I’ve now encountered for the first time in a long time, an actual game-breaking bug. I’ve checked the developer forums and the solution is to ‘wait for an update’. Which is all well and good, except I’ve got a huge backlog of games to move on to, and the chances of me coming back any time are slim. I also had it hard crash on me (I’m playing on Switch) two or three times.

Just depressing really, as I do think it’s marvellous. Engaging story, brilliantly constructed gameplay, unique and wonderful art style. Just would be nice to actually be able to play it.

I played the demo of this last night. It's wonderful. A witty, engaging and gorgeous adventure game that keeps you on your toes.

Shame about that bug, I'll probably come back when they've fixed it.

Edit: apparently you can get around the softlock by holding down the select button for 5 seconds and select restart scene or return to map.

Someone I know discovered there's actually a way to wipe your save unwittingly in the game.

Spoiler

When you face death, if you choose not to play, apparently you really die and that's that. And it doesn't warn you either - a particularly cruel joke.

I've been playing this on and off (just into Chapter 2) but, being quite tired lately, I have found it pretty tough. There's a lot to remember and hopping in after a few days off is hard, as its easy to forget all the tricks, and mistakes are punishing. Having said that, its an amazing concept and as magic fan myself I love how it's showing you how to do real tricks. The setting and story are unique and its a real test of your skills and memory to pull off some of these tricks.

They've somehow managed to take a very complex set of physical mechanics and translate that to game mechanics that make sense and are well explained. Not only that, but the animations and controls really sell the tricks as well. It may be tough, but I love that they have the confidence in the player to continually teach them new things and test what they've learnt. Definitely recommend giving this a shot with the demo, and if you enjoy that you will definitely like the full game.

I bought it. Was only £13 on the Epic store with the sale voucher and I think I want to play the whole thing rather than seeing more of the demo. It's the kind of game I want to see more of so those devs are getting my money.

Hmm, I had a similar thing but I got a very clear warning.

Spoiler

I chose to cheat death but messed up the trick. It gave me another chance to play my way out rather than paying but said if I failed this time the game would be up (and underneath the option it said it would delete my save file)

Maybe the friend I was talking to missed the warning. He seemed to think it came out of nowhere, but perhaps he wasn't paying attention or something.

Anyway, he wasn't happy about starting all over again.

A bit late to the game with this, but CDKeys had it for a tenner and I couldn't pass it up.

Suffice to say I think it's the most charming and atmospheric game I've played all year.

Wonderful stuff, and very clever with it.
