Wait I just realised. The only thing Halo related was a Flight Sim addition. Are they trying to pretend their "10 year road map" Halo Infinite doesn't exist?

They've already said they're disappointed at how long Season 2 will run for.  I don't think they're saying that they're not going to continue releasing content for it, they just don't have anything to show at the moment and it'd be a bit of a waste of time to say "In November..."

Edit: it's on the "this year on xbox" graphic too (shared earlier,  quoted below).

Forza looks lovely, but the nicest surprise for me is that all the games shown should be available within 12 months.

If they can deliver on that and then do the same again next year and so on that would be great.  I am getting too old to care about games being announced 3 years or more before I can play them.

Here's that big official image of everything shown, with "coming to Game Pass" status btw.

Hmm I definitely prefer last years’ “less is more” approach:

The showcase itself was quite flat and felt waaay too long. Starfield was exactly what I was expecting so not really disappointed there (+ the spaceship stuff looks cool) but Game Pass looks like something you can dip in an out of the next 12 months whereas last year it looked way more essential. Banger after banger.

I'm a little disappointed at not seeing Avowed but I can't really complain as one of hopes for the show was that they focused on stuff thats due before the end of 2023 and they one-upped me by focusing on stuff due inside the next twelve months.

-Forza looked great but it being a 2023 game really leaves Microsofts 2022 lineup looking barren.

-I loved the big PC announcements. They might not be my sort of games but its good to see Microsoft continue to take PC gaming very seriously.

-Silksong in Gamepass is great. I should probably play Hollow Knight someday

-No sign of Stoics game presumably means its a late 2023 game, right?

-That Rick and Morty meets Strangers Wrath thing looked good.

-I didn't buy Persona 5 Royale in the recent PSN sale, I'm a genius.

-That Minecraft RTS game looked interesting but after Dungeons I'm not sure if I will jump in on day one. I liked Dungeons but I was practically done with it by the time the later DLCs and interesting updates rolled out.

-Pentiment looks so weird. Hopefully it'll show up on Tuesdays stream so we'll have some clue what it really is.

-Scorn is a bigger nope for me than that hand holding anime game Sony showed last week. I hates the look of it.

Overall I thought it was solid considering the timeline restriction they imposed on themselves. No Goldeneye was probably the biggest surprise all things considered.

Stanger's Wrath! I knew it reminded me of something but couldn't remember it for the life of me.

Man, that was an utterly brilliant game.

2023. What. It'll have been six years since the last FM release coupled with the fact they removed FM7 from the store last year. Not complaining here but not sure what's going on with FM hope it's worth the wait! At least it's coming via GamePass I guess. Although my sub runs out March 2023. :)

Probably not resubbing to Game Pass this year.

Wait Valheim is coming to Game Pass?

Amazing, had been wanting to play that for a while.

Well that was a bit... mediocre. Plenty of stuff that could be good fun once we get to play it. But nothing impressed, no big announcement or showings. It's like they spent 90 minutes showing only the filler that you'd see between the big titles. No idea why this needed to be 90 minutes tbh.

I guess Starfield was supposed to be the big one but it's not that impressive. If you'd asked me to think about what Fallout 4 in space running on PS4 level hardware would look like, this would be it. I guess it doesn't look bad apart from the framerate but it's a showcase for the supposed power of the Series X either.

Persona coming to Xbox is good news. I'm interested in that sci-fi stealth game. And that weird looking talky RPG from Obsidian. And err that's it.

I look forward to clearing my extensive backlog in the next 12 months :)

I think their pivot to only showing games coming out in the next 12 months and only gameplay hurt them a little this time.

The result of that approach is that pretty much everything they showed was already announced and known. Hard to shadow drop or reveal a surprise when your previous strategy included announcing names and logos years out from release.

But it should get better over time. If they stick to this basic rule (and they should imo) then next year you could see a whole host of stuff we've never even heard of. And by 2024 we'd probably be seeing only brand new titles. With their gigantic stable of studios now it could be an impressive reel of the unexpected.

(It doesn't mean the games would actually look amazing or ground breaking but at least they'd have the element of surprise which I think would help a lot).

Oh... And they should take their "only gameplay" strategy further and get rid of every person talking to camera about their project bit. The Forza guy was the usual good example. Might as well have put two words on a few shots of a slightly longer trailer than have him try to list the features off the back of s box like any of them really mattered. They're impressive to some subset of people but save it for dedicated Forza video on YouTube to preserve the reel's momentum.

They had an emphasis on gameplay but it wasn’t “only gameplay”.

Unless Kojima’s made a Sam Barlow-style game about himself.

Which I wouldn’t put past him.

Okay, yes. There was that one thing.

Sort of forgot because a) my mind starts paying very very little attention when anyone is on screen and b) I've never played a Kojima game and think I'm unlikely to so not worth a mention (other than to say it simply diluted their show for me - a press release would have been better and probably got more coverage than in the middle of a reel like this)

It just clicked that Diablo 4 is coming to game pass 😮 I know the activision / blizzard purchase is in the pipeline but wasn’t expecting that. One less thing to purchase, though like MSFS may go and buy one of the premium versions anyway depending on what’s included.

I haven’t heard of more than half those games announced so all good from me. More new stuff to try out.  Quite happy to see the Persona games on gamepass.  I’m beginning to realise that almost every conference nowadays is boring as fuck for me. I’m too cynical to believe the renders out out for games launching in 2024-2025 style thst Sony do sometimes and I’m bored by watching actual gameplay that Ms are leaning towards.  Actual gameplay doesn’t have kick ass moments every 5 seconds to really hype up your games.

only Nintendo seem to have got the balance right for me.

Ah well. Either way. I know there’s a tonne of games to try out and experience over the next 12 months and that’s all I can ask for.

Diablo IV doesn't have a gamepass "tag" on that image so not sure it is ... yet

Once the takeover is done I imagine a fair amount of Acti-Blizz stuff will be on Gamepass

Gotcha, my mistake! Still, can't wait given the gameplay shown :)

I think the twelve months thing shows Microsofts strategy has been a bit underhanded in retrospect - show all these CG trailers to imply loads is coming when you launch your new console, hiding the fact that you have fuck-all games in the first, most important couple of years, and then once people have bought in under false pretenses pull the rug away, "everything is 2023 or 2024 baybee".

Sony and Nintendo can do 3-4 big releases a year consistently at a high level of quality because whatever you think of them they're very well managed companies. Microsoft is er... not that.
