In the equipment menu, in the ranged weapon section, there is room for two weapons and two thrown items. You can equip pebbles, throwing daggers etc there.

Yea, I had pebbles and daggers in those slots but couldn't figure out how to 'select' them to use them!

Turns out it was hold RT then left or right on dpad 🙄

Also it turns out that daggers are useless in combat, as you can't 'quickfire' them like in other soulslikes but have to aim them Iike a bow, they're sort of useful to lure single enemies to your position though 👍 (I couldn't find a way to invert the aim when zoomed in, is there a hidden option somewhere?)

I'm getting along quite well and have downed a few successive bosses on my first attempts, albeit by the skin of my teeth, with ample use of encouraging my allies and the spell that gives health back on hit 😎

One thing that pissed me off though...

Spoiler

In the level with all the rope bridges I had thoroughly explored the place and left myself with two options...

1. Open a large stone door up beside where you fought the bird creature.

2. Go behind a waterfall beside where the mermaid things were.

I had one marker flag left to find.

I chose to enter the waterfall as the other path felt more 'final' like the main boss was gonna be there. Turns out, he was behind the waterfall and I flukily beat him and inadvertently ended the level.

Then... I thought I best just run through here again, while it's still fresh in my memory, to clean up that last area for the last marker flag and any items. Alas, the whole level was reset! No battle or marker flags saved, no shortcuts activated so I'd have to do the whole thing over again!

TL;DR? IF YOU DON'T WANT TO FINISH A LEVEL EARLY, CHOOSE THE PATH AWAY FROM THE RED MARKER ON THE MINI MAP OR YOU'LL HAVE TO RUN THE WHOLE MAP AGAIN! 😳

That massive fort in Part 4 is the first but I’ve not just barrelled through relatively unperturbed. I think that’s sort of the point of it, though, as there’s loads of very high level enemies guarding the fort itself (as well as bloody annoying projectiles) which makes your sense of accomplishment when you actually manage to scale and take the flags really quite nice.

Boss will have to wait for tomorrow, unfortunately.

Fucking zombie cow. One shots me. It's way harder than anything so far.

Have you been upgrading your armour? I just did that boss and I could soak up a fair bit of damage after upgrading all my stuff to +2. If you haven't been upgrading as you go you should have a nice stockpile of materials waiting to be used. It does mean quitting out to the village to get to the blacksmith though.

I still have no idea how these jade beasts things are supposed to work. I used it in the battle but the one I had selected just made a bunch of spikes appear, didn't do any damage...

...until the boss jumped on them and impaled itself.

If you use X and A instead you get super powered and do loads of damage.

Yeah I upgraded and am using a +3 bamboo stick with all my points put purely into wood.

I like this game but it's annoying as fuck.

It's meant to be a bit Saiyan Goku. I've tweaked it a bit now, but it's really hard to get decent yellow in the colour editor.

This is fast becoming one of my favourite games in recent years. Amazing that I didn't know anything about it till it popped up on gamepass after I took a £2 one month code to try the ultimately pretty shit Atomic Heart.

I found the Lu Bu fight very satisfying.

Harder than the first boss in my opinion.

Yeah, he's tough as nails, but it's one of the best soulslike fights ever, IMHO. Spectacular, punishing, but very fair, since everything is properly telegraphed.

My first thought after beating him was: "YES!!! Go back to Dynasty Warriors, you little bitch!!", but my second thought was: "... Again, please!"

I hope this game gets a Sekiro-style boss rush mode, because the bosses (well, most) are excellent.

Though ultimately the only way any of us beat any soulslike is to learn and get better.

Indeed. People hate 'git gud' because it's an overused meme that sometimes gets thrown into people's faces when they genuinely ask for advice, but also because it, rightfully, puts the responsibility back at the player. Having the right information, context and strategy is one thing, but actually learning attack pattern, weapon move sets and how to deal with stamina (or in this case, the spirit gauge) is something the player has to just get better at by learning and being patient.

It's bit of tough love, at the end of the day, but love nonetheless.

Yes, but they're a bit more handy than that if you're good at pulling off headshots! They're still weak compared to arrows and bolts, but they can still do somewhat decent damage if your aim is solid. I've been in a situation more than once where I sniped an enemy from afar, only for him to to survive with around 20% health left and come running at me. Few things are more satisfying than switching to daggers and yeeting one straight into the enemy's dumb, aggro'd face to finish the job.

Keep it like this! #Broly

Also: I just found out that if an enemy does a red attack that has multiple hits, you can sometimes still hit him midway through the attack if you missed the initial hit! Very handy.

Oh! I've just realised why you can't talk about this game like an adult. You're Spainkiller!

I was expecting the first boss to be incredibly difficult based on the chat in this thread, however I downed him first go and thought it was actually pretty easy*. However I had been reading the thread so had seen all the tatical recommendations about holding block all the time, and how to trigger the power at half way through 2nd phase, so did that as soon as I saw the little flash in the bottom right hand corner.

I am however finding the next area punishingly hard because as soon as there is more than one person attacking you it just seems to become a crap shoot. I'm fed up with being almost one shooted by a person off screen who suddenly appears and hits me with a red attack. I think it's probably not for me to be honest.

*I'm not a particularly skilled gamer and gave up pretty early on in Darks Souls and Bloodborne and only completed Elden Ring as I played as a magic user so I didn't have to get in close and massively abused the rune farms to be overlevelled at all times.

You have a lot of options in terms of drawing them out. You can even just chuck a pebble at them, but you can also pick people off (particularly warlocks who buff melee fighters) with ranged weaponry. Stealth is also very viable in a lot of situations.

Drop attacking someone to thin out mobs is also handy.

And of course AOE magic or weapons with a broad sweep.

Yeah, I get this. I think my issue was that the speed and style of the combat made me think that diving towards groups and getting into them was the right way to play. But due to regular enemies having the red dot attacks too, it's incredibly dangerous. I would imagine that it's possible to play like that but I'd have to be so on point in terms of keeping track of enemies. (It also doesn't help they can be quite hard to see, especially against the colour palette of this level).  I have had more success by just slowing it down a bit.

You OK there? Seems you're still angry over yesterday. Not very mature of you. Go and enjoy the game or something.

These kinds of battles don't (have to) happen much as you can draw out most enemies one by one. There's also an accessory that shows you where the enemies on the map are, and this helps tremendously.

Coincidentally: are you talking about the very beginning of level 2? Because that fight against the three enemies there is supposed to be somewhat of a mean gank fight for narrative reasons, as it triggers the arrival of your companion.

No I got through that okay. I'm making my way through the village bit now, but even before that they have clustered the enemies much nearer to each other than the first area making it much harder to draw them out singly I found.

Anyway, game is good!

Are you doing the death from above attack? I find that more often or not it gets me killed, because I've not stopped other enemies nearby.

Ha! The thing where you jump down on them and you do the massive damage attack. I thought it'd be useful in that level because you can get around on rooftops and fortifications and things to get the drop on enemies, but it.. wasn't.

How is everyone managing the inventory? Every few checkpoints I find myself carrying a monumental amount of shite and so spend a few minutes selling stuff. It’s the only weak part of the game but calling it weak is an understatement. It’s awful.

I’ve still using the pommel type sword and switching it up to whatever better version drops but want to try out some of the dual wield and cudgel weapons as their move sets look brilliant.

Once I got the blacksmith, I visited her between each level and either sold or dismantled a load of stuff. Dismantling anything that's upgraded gives you some upgrade materials back, so you should never be short.

My policy is that anything that's 1 star goes, and any duplicate goes. I arrange them by type so I can see if I've got more than one of anything. Worth noting that you can use the triangle (Y?) button to highlight everything you want to get rid of, then hit cross (A) to sell it all in one go. It saves some time.

It's all a pointless pain in the arse though.
