Football thread 2022/23

Nothing of note will happen.

Citeh's bottomless pockets and lawyers will see to it that a superficially significant punishment will be given, and that'll be that. A 'large' fine, a hokey transfer ban, at best a points deduction that ultimately won't do much to hurt them.

The Premier League certainly isn't doing much more than that. They need to protect the product, which sadly Citeh is a headline part of now.

Meanwhile Newcastle have a nice case study on what they need to do to get away with pumping in obscene cash that contravenes the rules.

If they get relegated to the Championship we get to see if Haaland can do the business at Stoke on a Wednesday night.

I assume Juventus and Real Madrid are on the phone to Man City right now - how about Super League 2 then?

The thing about the European Super League was that they would still be part of their own country's league.

But even then the PL gave them a slap on the wrist.

I imagine the majority of the funny business will fall outside of a timeframe they're legally able to do anything about and anything recent will be minor infractions which they'll get a small fine for. No-one goes after the drug dealer once they've used the proceeds to set up a property empire and retired.

If they can't appeal to CAS then surely the PL aren't bound by similar time constraints, no?

Gerrard isn't busy.

I'd laugh but he was a contender to take over from Bielsa and is (or was, maybe) 'admired' by Orta. I don't think a single Leeds fan would be happy if that happened.

I think thats Leeds doomed, shame as he seemed decent but no time and ideas above their stationitus strikes again.

I think, with the right replacement, we have the players to stay up. I just can't see who that could be. Some fans are calling for Poch, but would he come to a non CL club? I doubt it. I like Corberan but he's not tested at this level. I really don't know who I'd be happy with.

Big Sam it is then.

Everton are relying on Dyche getting them hyper organised every week. Their squad is bizarrely shoddy and even the quality in it has been poor all season. Even with Dyche I'd still be concerned if I was them, they just aren't very good and their attacking force is dire.

West Ham will pinch enough points to be safe, they've got players that can score reliably if they hit form and they've solid players throughout the team.

Leeds, hard to say. I don't think the squad is that good, from an outsider perspective, particularly defensively. I'd be concerned in their shoes.

Wolves - they'll be fine. Lopetegui has then going and there's more than enough quality in their side to keep them safe.

Bournemouth have been down for months and Southampton have had the wheels fall off entirely this season, they're done.

Hast the squad been moved from flogged to death ways to Marschs style tho, with no players available now and last chance managers left I fear others are setup better to stay up now :(

i quite liked marsch, don't know what to think of the sacking, not keen on the constant sacking thing that happens in football but it just wasn't working out so don't blame them for sacking him.

i guess mark jackson would have been interim manager if he hadn't left recently

Poch!? As in Pochettino!? At LEEDS!

If Leeds have ambition, and can back that ambition, I'd try to speak to Poch in their shoes. He's 99% certain to die laughing at the idea, but why not? He's not working, he might fancy it back in England, and maybe Leeds have the money to make it worth his while, or give him a big project.

I don't think they do of course but I'm not aware of the money behind them.

Had to happen, I kind of like the guy and I think he's been unlucky but it just doesn't work.

Leeds fans referring to him as Yank Lampard is the second funniest thing related to football that I have heard today.

Derby were docked 12 points and forced into administration (and a further 10 points) after a few years of relatively modest overspending in a gamble to get to the Prem. Looking forward to City’s punishment being a very stern telling off alongside something quite serious sounding which is suspended indefinitely.

(I’m not saying there was anything wrong with Derby’s punishment, by the way.)
