Oh football.  
You spend all summer anticipating the new season, get an ‘easy’ opening fixture against a newly promoted club who have hardly signed anybody since they came up and then concede a goal after 90 seconds when one of your defenders is off the pitch removing fucking jewellery that he’d decided to leave on when getting changed.

I’ve been a bit glib, as they’ve probably played together in pre-season, but that must be close to a record?

 

Bar the first ever game of football when all the players would have been debutants. I hope none of them really knew what they were doing and just booted the ball in every direction until a referee with a fantastic moustache lit his pipe to signal full-time.

Listening to the Newcastle-Forest game on 5live and by Christ Jonathan Woodgate is not a very good pundit. Its a constant stream of football clichés in that unattractive accent/tone he has (which isn't too far removed from my own to be honest, but in my defence I'm not subjecting listeners to mine on the radio) 

 

I heard a bit of him last season when he was starting out and hoped the BBC realised he wasn't very good and wouldn't sign him up for the new season, but appears my hopes have been dashed. 

 

Good result for Newcastle though, sounded like they played well.

Yep very promising start for Leeds.

 

If we can get a good quality forward and decent left back cover,  in addition to Robles the backup keeper we are supposedly signing in the next couple of days then there is no reason we cannot have a half decent season.

Still looked a little shaky at the back but yeah, looking good overall.

Lino was not up with play and the player made the tackle due to the mistake - not sure you can blame anyone there. Looked horrible as soon as you saw his reaction.

Plenty of other media outlets are giving similar biased reporting in favour of Barca and it stinks.  Just about any other club behaving this outrageously would be sanctioned in a heartbeat, yet where are UEFA?  

 

There's a great piece on The Athletic about Barcelona’s financial crisis and there's bit in it about representatives of Barcelona players suspect the club have been leaking contract details and trying to turn the public against them, creating paranoia in the squad.

UEFA said the organisation “is unaware of any such meeting or request”. Barcelona have been approached for comment.

It should be said that this allegation, along with the appeal to UEFA to advance television money, precedes the Laporta regime.

 

They tried to get around the registration problem with Raphinha but thankfully Leeds didn't play ball and got most of the money upfront.

It all feels a bit like Ridsdale on steroids, he can only dream of the fishtanks the Barcelona boardroom could have.

I’m not saying such things can happen, but they definitely can happen.

 

Edit: I totally didn’t twig it was Hibs Vs Hearts; yeah that’s someone in the graphics department just being a spanner.

Martin Braithwaite, you say?  That would be the guy who Barca got as an emergency transfer from another club as they had suffered an injury to one of their own players.

 

The fact that the injured player was a goalkeeper and Braithwaite was the top scorer for a club battling against relegation is by the by.  Mes que un club, indeed.

 

(Have to point out that Braithwaite was an innocent party, and was as surprised as anyone to find himself at the Camp Nou.)

Watching Spurs on MOTD and Kulusevsic looks a very impressive player to be honest.  Spurs playing free flowing football, admittedly against a sorry looking Southampton side, should have a really good season.  To score 4 and no Kane or Son on the score sheet is great for them.

 

That O.G though was terrible, that's a premier league footballer trying to clear with his wrong foot.
