Do you find your OLEDs getting incredibly hot after a while with HDR on? 

 

I went for the new LG IPS monitor instead of full OLED, but it does HDR1000 far better than my TV but fucking hell it gets toasty. I think it's got a fan in there to cool it down but I am a little concerned!

The people using OLED displays, have you upgraded to windows 11?

 

I am still on windows 10, a little bit of laziness and a little bit of worry that something will screw up my PC has kept me on 10, but I hear windows 11 is much better at HDR?

I wish we could get an idea just how many of these bastards have been sold. I don't know whether it's a case of there just wasn't huge amounts produced (despite various rumours to the contrary), or whether people have become so immune to prices of these things they've decided to say 'screw it' and buy one anyway.

 

Do we ever get sales reports on these things? Or am I going to have to wait until the next Steam hardware survey to get an idea?

Boxed, looks new, bought Sept 2021. 4 years left on warranty. Original box and bits. Never been overclocked (it's the OC model). From what I can gather, the LHR models are actually worth more used because you know it hasn't been mining ethereum for the last year. I haven't really used it that much because I had a baby in Feb so I've mostly been elbow deep in poo. Was thinking £700.

That's mostly for the non-LHR model which will have been mining since the day it was bought until eth fell off a cliff. It's really weird, the latest sold one on ebay is non-LHR and has "some corrosion on the heatsink" and a broken displayport output, and went for £716. The market is all over the place. But I'd rather sell to someone for a fair price.

I sold mine for £550 on here (a week or two pre 40 series announcement) and that was the FE. I just wanted to give someone a good deal knowing I got mine for RRP. Could prob have got a bit more on ebay but I'd rather not deal on there with scammers and fees.

Yeah the fees and the endless begging to sell it for tuppence from accounts with zero feedback gets tiring. I've got a whole load of stuff to box up, photograph and sell soon, dreading it

@Len - chances of buying new PSU with a new cable increasing dramatically ;) 

I've been following this whole thing on reddit and the various youtubers chiming in the last few days and the overall conclusion is the adaptors are obviously shit but what isn't clear yet is what behaviour from the adaptors exactly is causing the physical melting. I say this because EVERY single reported instance (we are in double figures now I think) has been from third party cards.

 

There has not been a single instance of FE's using the adaptor being damaged by this issue. Now, this may be pure statistics (tiny number of reports so far plus number of FE's sold vs third party may be small too) but could also funnily enough link back to EVGA fucking off all those weeks ago, ie that AIB's might have been messed over again because they likely didnt have hardware long enough to adjust their VRM and connector behaviour to account for the heat/connection issues from the adaptor. 

 

Now as far as I am aware, every single individual with damage is getting a replacement card and I'm going to order a cablemod kit come monday but that might not arrive until late nov/early dec so in the meantime I'm going to follow the story but keep using my PC albeit cautiously and definitely not overclock the thing

Gamers Nexus have done a video about it. Interesting stuff, and definitely feels like there's been a case of some incorrectly produced cables being shipped to card suppliers (the whole issue of Igor's cable being rated 150v, as opposed to the 300v ones that all five of GN's cables were).

Nvidia probably used the "good" connector for all their own FE's which would explain why no FE's have had the issue yet

If you want the GN video above it shows how you can peel away the tape and check without damaging anything

 

You don't need a new PSU. You can get a custom cable that bypasses needing an adaptor:
