So after the shit AMD gave Nvidia over the 16pin power cable issue.

oh man, that last part.

Seems every single one of their reference cooler 7900XTX cards may have to be recalled as it looks like they fucked up the vapour chamber design. lolz

It's fine if you mount it vertically! I know nothing about engineering but I thought that vapour chambers always needed to be mounted vertically in order for them to work properly.

I'm also amazed that the 4090 is still in stock, some hours after it came up. I did scratch my chin over it but whenever I think about buying one I just snowball. No point having it with this 1440p monitor. No point having it with just this 5800x processor. Won't be able to appreciate it unless I get that Aaron Task Chair. And before you know it, I'm browsing houses because my current office doesn't really have a good place to mount an OLED on the wall.

Hah.

Oof. Sooo, the only marketable audience really is those who were looking to get a 3090 but never got round to it, who can now get more or less the same performance (ish) for nearly half the power draw. And that's about it. If you were expecting actual increase in performance then there aint none.

And, for people like me, that might have been a reasonable selling point actually. But that's probably an extreme minority case, and also it isnt at all how theyve tried to position it. Ho hum.

Remember 1080 Ti?

When they came out I bought one, and my mate at the office (where the delivery was made to, I wasn't so proud of it that I just casually carried it around or anything) said "Oh man Alex, look at you buying a rich man's graphics card".

And look where we are now with prices.

So, what I'm getting from this is that my 4090 is the bargain of the decade!

Yay.

Seems so. And the only card with some legs towards the future where 4K with bells and whistles should become the norm? 4K monitors with proper HDR is coming down in price.

Interesting, where does the 5600X cap out? Ours barely breaks a sweat currently but just moderately curious how much legs it has.

it’s fine with pretty much everything but the 4090. That thing was basically ending up processor limited at 4k with some stuff, which was absolutely unthinkable before.

Offtopic, but in twenty years, when people talk about the 10's/Teens or whatever, those thumbnails are just a perfect example of an atheistic. And by christ do I hate it.

Spoiler

Yes we know,  the 'the content creators hate it too, but the all powerful YouTube algorithm means they have too' replies. - the fact that no one wants this but a piece of code, skinner boxing children and adults, makes it worse, not better.

The absolute worst thing about Nvidia in my mind is the fact they are clearly the best when it comes to GPUs so what can you do really?

My plan is to sit this generation out and work on my back log which my current PC is more than capable of playing.

I've had zero buyers remorse with the 4090 despite the insane price. It's nice to not have to worry about settings.

Oh, I still play with settings constantly :P . But, it has to be said I don't play with them as much as I did in the past, for sure!

Well, I think I want one of these because basically I don't have a modern PC right now and my choice is either get a system based around a 3080-something or a 4070ti for the same price or slightly more. Just waiting for some UK prices to start appearing...

Managed to get an 4090 FE from nvidia. Quite the stup up from my 2070s so looking forward to full on 4k. Dying light 2 was chugging and everything other than the vid card was  way above recommended specs. It'll be nice to not have to make the rtx on/off decision any more

Same, and I’m playing at 1600p on a 5800x. Rather than full 4k on an even beefier CPU. I probably wouldn’t buy one for 1440p though.

They've started appearing! Nothing under £869 so far. 🤢

EDIT 3: Never mind, just nabbed a different one (MSI VENTUS) at £799.99. Coming next week!

It goes without saying but I'm very impressed with the 4090 so far. Outside of Cyberpunk I've struggled to get it to pull more than 250W in anything (even Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate - which caused my old card to trip the PSU!)

That said, the messaging on dlss3 compatibility is still a bit garbled imo. Every now and then I'll see mention on some site that at least some of that will be implemented on 30xx cards too, though never with specific details of what or when. Saw that just now in fact with the updated list of upcoming dlss3 games coinciding with an update to dlss 3 later this quarter, so maybe then? Would certainly give a bit of extra longevity to 30xx cards.

DLSS 3 FG relies entirely on the Optical Flow 2.0 hardware chip only available on Ada Lovelace, the 1.0 Beta version included in Ampere is half the speed so while they could technically enable it, if it ain't fast enough to actually speed up things, what's the point? It's like asking somebody to use Intel's XeSS without using the XMX-optimised version.

Two new PC builds with 4090s on their way to the office this week, super pumped. Question now is; I’m also ordering an OLED for the office for reviewing 4k projects, do I keep using the Ultrawide I have now or switch to the Oled for the main monitor?

Out with the old, in with the new.

Wish I'd put my hand in my pocket and bought that RM1000x I had in my basket four years ago. Swapping GFX card, piece of piss, swapping PSU, spaghetti junction nightmare.

What would be a fair price to ask for a boxed and sparkling clean 2080TI on here, £200, maybe £250, or is that taking the piss?

EDIT* Had a few enquiries about the 2080TI. Sold it to a nice chap from here for £255 delivered. Peace.
