Why is nobody talking about this, come on rllumuk (couldn't even find a thread on it, I'm sure there has been one). It's a new IP too, us gamers are always demanding new IP, well here we go! Ahoy!

They can't even make it sound interesting.

"This is the pirate hub where you buy provisions for your expedition"

"Here is where you get contracts"

"There are many different ships"

"If your ship sinks you lose a bit of progress"

It's another Ubi open world. This was supposed to be something entirely different years ago right?

It's a weird video for sure. So clinical and mechanical.

But there's something I appreciate about that. Most game videos before release are so much style over substance that half the time I only have s very vague idea of what the game is.

Here I know what it is precisely. The basic gameplay loop and mechanics. I know I'm not interested but I like that I can see what the game is. No con here. No need to go and find a gameplay video after release to understand it.

Definitely lacking the charm and simplicity of Sea of Thieves which I absolutely adore, but I love pirates, really enjoy the Assassins Creed series so what is essentially an expanded AC Black Flag interests me.

I hope it's more geared towards single players than SoT is.

I was wondering the same thing. Some obscure website posted this 13 hours ago:

"Does Skull and Bones let you play solo?

Yes, Skull and Bones does let you play solo. It doesn’t have a campaign, with the structure of the game being more like Sea of Thieves, as you complete quests and upgrade your ship and find new items for your characters.

So, while you can play solo, you won’t be able to separate your solo progress from multiplayer progress as it will all be unified as you go between playing alone and with your friends, fending off pirate hunters."

Sounds like one of those 'yes you can technically play it solo so that we tick that box in the marketing, but eeeh'

Will that just be a reskinned Assassin's Creed too?

Who knows, last we saw it there was a monkey with a filthy mouth flipping the bird to the audience and it was going to be a hobby grade galaxy spanning.... experience of some sort

I just want more of the first game but that's the least likely outcome I think.

It didn't look that interesting when it was announced, and I'm pretty sure that was around the time Sea of Thieves was.

I'm all for GaaS games but for some reason I don't give a fuck. It doesn't help that the 'realistic' Ubisoft style leaves me very cold.

Seems you are basically more of a boat than a pirate - you can’t do any combat or buckling of swash on islands, and the combat looks really chaotic.

White flag raised and all hands bailing in a year.

The bit at around 2m 40s where they they pull up to an island like it’s a McDonald's drivethrough and a hacksaw symbol appears and numbers start flying out to fill a bar somewhere is some leak Ubisoft shit.

EDIT: Just noticed it’s a certain type of wood to boot. Look forward to having to grind 'rare' woods and the like to get the best upgrades.

Isnt it more that it looks a little dull and given their form as scumbags Ubi games are pretty easy to ignore these days?!?!

Yes.

Amusing note - Skull and Bones has to be released this year. Not from a creative standpoint - Ubisoft was given a grant by the Singapore Government to develop this in Singapore, so they're contractually obligated to get it out the door after eight years.

Christmas comes early if you like Ubi-related car crashes, I guess.

Jesus, the interface. All the icons! All the heath bars!

It looks fucking shite.

Their tagline is "Long Live Piracy" which is ironically probably going to be the ideal way to procure the game.

There wasn’t really anything wrong with the “World of Warships but in the Age of Sail” it was originally shown as, beyond it disappointing a few in not being Black Flag multiplayer. No idea why it took five years to rework, looks more muddled and worse when it didn’t even resolve that.

Also £70!

So is this going to be a budget title? The trailer seems to cater to the - no disrespect - casuals and/or the mobile type gamer.

It's full price...

Jaysus I can't wait for the current Ubi leadership to crash and burn.
