Black Panther - Wakanda Forever - November 2022

The original Black Panther was only a B-grade Marvel movie for me - I thought it was pretty overrated because of its huge cultural impact compared to its merits as an actual film, despite having some great moments and one of the best villains in the MCU. T'Challa was pretty bland in it, to be honest - he was a better character in Civil War for me. Boseman's performance was great but he was underserved by the material. Also, the end fight was so badly shot with terrible CG that it somehow lessened everything in the build-up.

The new trailer is amazingly edited and has got me really hyped for Wakanda Forever, although I seem to recall that the original Black Panther trailer was also brilliant! I rate Ryan Coogler a lot as a director (I adored the first Creed film), so I'm hoping he sticks the landing on what must have been an incredibly difficult project to complete due to the tragic circumstances. I'm sure it will be a huge success.

I thought the first film was boring and not very good, and said at the time that I thought T'Challa was far more charismatic and interesting in Civil War than his own film.

The big bad was better than those in many of the other films, but it didn't save it for me. And Martin Freeman was terrible (not just his accent).

Wasn't the first film the only half decent Marvel Movie?

It's one of the more overrated. It has a fantastic villain and some great performances, but it's got some of the worst CGI in the series, some rough action, and it's homage to Bond movies doesn't quite work.

It's more important for what it did and represents than what it ultimately is as a film.

Yeah, like Thor 2 absolutely shits on Black Panther, right? That dark elf villain was so charismatic and he had such a compelling reason to do that thing he did. Whatever it was.

I never said that though, did I? It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Thor 2, so that’s why I said “maybe”. BP is definitely down these amongst the worst Marvel offerings for me though.

Saying that the new trailer looks good, so hopefully they’ve made a decent film this time.

Something to do with the Tardis I think.

What's all this about Letitia Wright being anti-vax? She posted a link to an anti-vax video a couple of years ago, was called out on it, said "I'm not anti-vax but it's important to ask questions" and that seems to be it? Hardly Laurence Fox, unless I missed the rest?

So let me get this straight, people would rather a male actor replace a female actor in a movie just because she liked an anti vax video or something. I know this forum can be insane with its pro-vax stance but that just takes the biscuit and smells all kinds of wrong. She’s young, she possibly made a mistake, get the fuck over it.

Nothing public, just persistent rumours of her clashing with other cast members because of it.

Look, the rules are that you make one mistake and the 'kind' left then campaign to ruin your livelihood forever and ensure you'll never work again. No backsies.

Having said all this, I'd cancel her for the religious claptrap that was part of her denial of the Hollywood Reporter's story:

Quote

"I will continue to hold onto God's hands, and onto the scripture of Isaiah 54:17. I continue to focus on my healing. Thank you for your prayers. And I continue to pray for God's love, peace & joy for you all. God bless you. Letitia."

Uggggggggh. I HATE it when people say things like this, it sounds so culty (intentional L).

Who said that? With the rest of your post, it sounds like you’re shouting at people here, but I can’t see anyone saying they want her replaced with a man.

Personally I would have preferred Okoye to have taken over the mantle, just because I like her character more.

Or Nakia, who is a super cool character kinda underserved by the first movie.

If a just revealed Lego set tied to the film is correct, it reveals at least in part who becomes the black panther

Spoiler

It has Shuri donning the suit in the set.

On the one hand it would seem odd to put them in there like that if they didn’t know, and in some promo stuff they blacked out that character on the box as if to avoid spoiling it as much as poss.

On the other hand they did a set to tie in with iron man 3 where the mandarin has a mechanical flying chair to attack with.
