Yep he's irritating and probably doing well from this himself. Honestly nobody involved in this is coming out looking good, everyone has to insert themselves into the drama somehow - even Kim Justice who I like a lot and was the only person I had previously heard of who is now connected to this whole thing.

Well the problem is that "george" has been calling out all these names and insinuating stuff, "top secret" discord channels and collusion etc. And he (and others even here) has been questioning why they haven't said anything, why haven't they made a video disassociating themselves from the two miscreants.

So KIm probably felt obliged to make a video and has pointed to a decent roundup of the issue - this has annoyed "george" apparently :D

Basically in nerd terms George Cropper is Admiral Norah Satie at this point, only with more invective.

Another cracker from George.

I also watched the latest video from Ms Mad Lemon too. Cracking video and it makes me sad that she has gone through some of this shit in the past.

It made me think about the prominent UK Youtubers who could be in the circle jerk.

I think I've got a pretty good idea of who to unsubscribe from.

He mentions in one of his latest videos that he's in a really bad way and dying, has mentioned several times over the years that he's disabled and from all accounts doesn't seem to have much time left so wants to leave something behind and do some good before he goes. Doesn't care about sub counts  says as much as there's no ads on his vids just a link for support on Patreon. He currently has 23 Patreons at minimum of £5 a month with a few higher levels of £9.50. That's not big money really and Patreon takes a third of the total each month minus Paypal/VAT fees too.

You need to hit around 50'000 views on several vids in a single year to make around £60 a year (that's what I was making a few years ago when I had an active channel). The ad money on YT is crap, most of his vids come in for a few hundred views so he's not really big time even with all this going on.

Yup. I've got 24 Patrons, which brings me £83 a month after fees. Ad money for his videos getting a couple of thousand views is likely to be in the pence rather than pounds.

He's absolutely not making bank from this.

There are a lot of assumptions about how much money people get from yt, it seems.

I also managed to hit 1 million views over the course of 10 years with 2000 thousand subs and over a thousand videos (I had a problem 🤣) but I didn't start making anything cash wise until the last couple of years. All told I made exactly £124.99 between 2016 and 2018 from ads before they kicked me off the payment program for not having enough subs/watch time. I also spent hundreds on mic, green screen and all the other bits that are now shoved in a cupboard so I def lost out money wise. I wasn't doing it for cash though! It was a nice bonus which bought me a couple of games.

Oh believe me I am more than aware of the financial aspect - I have a YT which one of my old Twitch gentleman uploads my old GTA clips to and see how little is made from it. I also know how he's feeling from the other part you mention as you know, which is sad and sucks. I feel for and wish him all the best.

Doesn't make his videos any less shit though, maybe despite being a retro fan I'm just not the target audience in the same way I never pushed my Twitch stuff on this forum cos it just isn't the target audience despite you lot being way more 'my people'.

I know when I'm gone I wouldn't want my lasting online legacy to be continuous whining about some gormless cunts fighting over £500!

Think he's been doing YT since 2010 so def a long termer. I know a lot of people don't like him (he does go too far at times) but there's so much retro stuff out there it's easy to just ditch a channel and move on. I used to watch Gamesack every weekend for years until I started disliking a few of his vids each week, dropped him in the end and not been back since.  Can go to a channel on your YT feed and select "don't show this channel again" to get rid of any mention again. So much decent stuff out there so don't waste your stuff on things you dont like!

I'm currently working my way through a channel on rebuilding an abandoned Japanese house, it popped up in my feed one week and now I've cloed most of the content. I've never had an interest in that stuff before but now I'm hooked🤣

What did you dislike Gamesack?, I admit it lost some of his appeal when the other guy left.

Just the way he reviewed a few things seemed a bit too over the top negative to mock what he had. I think I started noticing it with the Evercade review many moons ago then I started to notice it more and more and went off the channel.

Digital Foundry is another one I gave up on, used to enjoy their content a fair bit but after they all started singing the PS5's controllers praises like with the game changing rumble/audio features was proper perplexed when it turned up and was a bit gnaff. That built in speaker was laughable to how they'd been putting it across. I started to wonder if some money had been paid behind the scenes.

I unsubbed to digital foundry because half the time I just didn't care that much about volumetric lighting and FSR.

whenever someone buys a copy of sonic in 2019 and then lauds it up that they are more important/ know more than you - they can get knotted

I thought you were talking about DF.

The whole 'buy thousands of pounds worth of old tat and shove it in the background on an Ikea bookshelf' thing always sets off alarm bells for me. Don't think I'm subbed to a single channel like that, but I'm generally not interested in the material side of old games at all.

Whenever money is involved, and we are really talking about big money (enough to quit your day job not a few pounds here and there) things get ugly.

Is there really a retro mafia that the above lemon video suggests?

A closed shop, where the cabal actively tries to keep others out, unfriendly and unwelcoming?

I don't know ? is it? who knows? some people claim to but won't say who or how.

It is all just whispers and nudges that is the problem. That lemon video said nothing really, 20 minutes of "I saw stuff at Playexpo and after it I felt sick but I wont tell you what it is" and "I wont name names because Im too strong to be affected by them" and "I know some of my viewers tell me names independently and they are the same names I worry about"

The latest rant from george is just more heat than light (and the usual toxic framing) that is light on content, here picking out one thing said by tophat that they went back on - 6 minutes of ranting to tell us that!

It is all just drama feeding itself endlessly. The article linked by Kim is still a decent roundup, a million times more usefult han any video posted here. The Top Hat Gaming and Lady whatever were in the wrong completely and pretty much everyone recognises that (except them of course). Everything else after that is just so much froth hinting at conspiracies and cabals.

As I said before it is just a drumhead
