M$ will probably give the next Xbox "Media Player" capabilities that will tie in with your PC, so the only missing thing would be emulation....

But this is very unlikely to work with anything other than Windows. And it is quite likely to be hampered by Digital Restrictions Management.

If the launch line-up is interesting then yes, I will, but judging by my tastes this generation I'll probably be more interested in PS3 and N5, buying an Xbox 2 a couple of years down the line. Remember how quickly MS dropped the price of the first Xbox...

I can't seem to get GoldenEye to run properly under Surreal64.

I'll buy one I expect, I buy them all, I can't help it. I hope it can be hacked in a similar way to this one though because it's amazing.

And my PC doesn't have a TV out, and is a bit slow (although fine for what I use it for, i.e. this forum and email ) and I don't want wires everywhere, and blah blah blah. Yes, you can do it all with a PC, but the XBox is a far more elegant solution.

I find the notion that you won't buy an Xbox 2 because you won't be able to use it as a surrogate PC kinda odd. If you already have an Xbox to do all these things then why should it bother you if the Xbox 2 can't do them?

And just what will you be buying a PS3 or N5 for as well? Sheesh, anyone would think these consoles were actually meant for playing games on.

My mates family got that windows xp media centre thing the other day and its basiclly identical to xbox media centre but lacking in some of the xbmc features, the hardware used to run it was some intel thing that cost over a grand and is even bigger and uglier then the xbox

Reckon they'd prefer to launching with a bunch of titles with "Three" in the name.

New titles ahoy!

Halo: Combat Reloaded

Racing Cities (or Raceville, or something that merges conurbations and driving fast)

Shenmue 2097 (one hundred years after the power of the mirror is released the survivors of the apocalype struggle to rebuild)

You mean Halo 2 surely.

Well there are rumours that Halo2 will actually come out on Xbox 1, maybe even this year. Imagine that!

And yeah, I only bought my Xbox after seeing a chipped one at a meet. Halo and PGR2 are very good, but get nowhere near as much use as MAME, xSNES9x, other emulators and Xbox Media Centre.

That doesn't mean I won't buy Xbox 2 if it can't be hacked. I've bought loads of consoles that haven't been hacked - it all depends on the games. I was waiting for Xbox to have enough exclusive titles or the price to drop enough to tempt me before I bought. It would have happened eventually whether it could be hacked or not.

I bought an Xbox with chipping it in mind, although I have yet to actually get the chipping done. I've seen it running at the meets, played around with a few old games I loved as a kid, but I'm not so sure the novelty won't wear off, so, I'm not entirely bothered about whether Xbox 2 does it or not. I'll still buy one eventually I imagine, although it will have to be further down it's lifeline, when I can pick it up for £100.

My most played game on my xbox just now is Super Metroid.. Never played it during the SNES era and it's ace...

Just finished downloading 24 episode 2... so can take the box through the lounge, hook it up to the plasma telly and stream the bugger through wireless lan.

I'm sure MS will have this functionality on their next box, however, I suspect it'll be proprietary formats such as WMA and WMV's to stop DVD ripping and such the like... bugger that.

So buying an xbox because it can be chipped is also silly?

um, no, that wasn't the point I was making. the general consensus appears to be that the people here won't buy something for the reason it was made, only for a reason that it can be forced into doing with a bit of 'jiggery pokery'

like not buying a dyson vacuum cleaner because it does a good job at cleaning, but because you can mod it to turn it into a washing machine.

And here's me thinking games consoles were to play games on.

I take it that none of you have PS2's or Gamecubes then?

I know that eveyrone isn't able to have all the consoles, but to not buy something because it won't do what it isn't supposed to do in the first place is a bit silly, if you ask me.

Bravo, sir.

A simple "yes" would've done pretty much the same job, though. :D
