Do EA still have the Star Wars licence? Can't see Disney letting that go to Amazon.

There are currently Star Wars games on the way from a bunch of different publishers, so I don't think they have any exclusivity agreements in place.

They used to have exclusivity but squandered it stupidly. Now the licence is on a per-game basis spread across various publishers, which seems like a much better arrangement for gamers.

Having a license to make one or maybe more games based on Star Wars isn't the same as outright owning the Star Wars license or even having the exclusive rights to making Star Wars games or a say in who gets to make Star Wars games.

They did previously have exclusive rights, though; I'd just forgotten they'd reverted back to Disney after the shitshow EA made of the opportunity.

You mean by making several games that sold over 10 Million copies, that shitshow? It seems the move not to renew the exclusivity agreement comes about because Disney like $$$$ and doing more of that is better than keeping it exclusive.

Or given that EA told FIFA to fuck off on their most lucrative game, more likely that EA didn't want to pay the exorbitant re-up that Disney likely wanted to charge them to keep it exclusive.
