Apparently this is 'back to basics'. And taking out the RPG stuff. Which is a bad idea.

Nrgh. I haven't played Valhalla but does this mean they've asked the team who made Odyssey to reimagine (again) AC, this time in the original stealth game approach?

What happened to the rumours that the next AC game would be "the last"? I've no idea where the info originated from, but there was talk about the next AC game simply being a huge sandbox that would live on for years and years and would simply receive content in the form of expansions.

If the current rumours about Basim being the next protagonist are correct I'd be fine with that, but I'm not sure if I'm overly excited about Baghdad as the area of choice, the endless vistas of sand and dust in Origins was more than enough of that kind of place for me.

From what I understand this was going to be another bit of DLC for Valhalla but they decided to spin it into its own game whilst they work on the big live service style AC game you mention.

I'd bloody love a return to the smaller AC games, like the Ezio trilogy. I played through everything up to Origins and loved them, though they were getting a bit bloated. After the RPG reboot they were just too big, too time consuming and the RPG levelling spoiled the immersion (I don't care what level a baddie is, If I sneak up from behind and stab him the head with a spear, he should die, not turn around and beat me to death).

Me too, the RPG games, good as they were, totally burnt me out on AC. Surprised they are going this route though, I thought they'd said that style was the way forward. I'd also like them to really go big back into building super detailed cities, instead of a lot of smaller towns strung out in the wilderness.

And no, Brotherhood was NOT Ancient Rome.

Cross and having a strop about this. #stamps

One of the early games was partly set in Ancient Rome wasn't it? I'm sure I remember clambering about the Colosseum.

Enjoyed Odyssey and Origins, but after the bloat of Valhalla, which I sacked off after 80 (eighty) hours, would quite like a 20-25 hours AC in a much smaller map, with a lot more verticality. So basically a rehash of one of the early games with new gen lipstick and short load times.

Ah, not ancient Rome - it was an Ezio game.

I want the Roman Empire at the peak of her powers - crowds around the forum, games in the arena, visiting places like Pompeii, Ostia, Capua (they could have Batiatus and Spartacus as NPCs!)

Fuck it - make it the extremes of the Empire, with German hordes, British Druids, Libyan ruins in the desert etc etc etc.

It would be epic.  And yes - I want it to be as ridiculously oversized as Valhalla/Odyssey.
