And don't ask me what's going on with that title. Coming to Netflix on 21 September. Evan Peters stars as Dahmer. wev Posted September 21, 2022 Share Posted September 21, 2022 I'm watching this, but not sure on it, I have begun to wonder though, Ryan Murphy does seem to focus on stories (be they true or not) that have both homosexual and violent themes to them. I don't know enough about them as a person, but there's alot of both themes in most of what I saw it AHS (can't remember if it was Roanoke or Apocalypse I last watched), then he also did the Versace case, this one too. AHS does feature alot of heterosexual themes too, in its defence, and there are well documented links between sex and violence, particularly among serial killers. But I'm maybe looking at things too in depth, I don't know much about Murphy, and I wonder how much this focus is subconscious, it just feels like a recurring theme (and one American media have always been more than happy to push). Murphy, like many LGBTQ figures in Hollywood, primarily wants to tell stories that concern LGBTQ experiences. He absolutely dabbles in the melodrama of general celebrity glamour too, but seems firmly rooted in stories that resonate with him. Additionally, he keeps a healthy ensemble of LGBTQ actors in work too. He definitely seems to be a powerful force for representation, the macabre and gaudiness. But he also seems to think that Evan Peters is the world's most complete actor. For better or worse. I’m not really into serial killer stuff as a rule but I’ll watch anything Ryan Murphy puts out, and this doesn’t disappoint. What’s going on with that Peters guy though? Dahmer's crimes are so horrific you can't really portray them without the grime. Mission accomplished. The actress playing the neighbour can not pull off 36 as claimed in one episode (daughter 18, the age I had her). Was surprised to learn his dad and stepmom are still alive. ZOK Posted September 30, 2022 Share Posted September 30, 2022 I always find this idea that he’s inconsistent to be very odd. Everything I’ve seen of his have been amongst the best telly I’ve watched. Feud, American Crime Story, Pose, Halston, The Andy Warhol Diaries - all perfect. And even the lower tier stuff like the best American Horror Stories (Coven & Freak Show) and Ratched are sweet trash. Broker Posted September 30, 2022 Share Posted September 30, 2022 I’d say that AHS ranges from being some of the best TV I’ve ever watched (Hotel, Freak Show, Asylum) all the way to some of the worst (1984, Apocalypse). Ratched was fine, but I think it’s more that his work is often quite internally inconsistent.
