Graphics aside, thought this was pretty mediocre. Too much stealth, crafting and bullet sponge soldiers for me to enjoy.

Normally I'd be the one moaning about crafting, but in this you need to craft items, what, ten times in two levels? It's just a gimmick for the sake of variety and nothing major.

I thought the shielded enemies were an interesting addition - reminded me of popping the shield off an Elite. Aim for headshots.

The stealth was the highlight of the game. Intense and atmospheric. I really liked how swarthy and dirty the game felt.

Finished last night. Really enjoyed it. Liked the fact is was less bombastic than previous games and had a far more "stealth" feeling. It tried to do something new for the franchise.

It does have the big moments though but im thinking about playing it on veteran (which i never do for CoD or any game really) and seeing if the slow peeking round corners SAS style will make it even better, rather then me being more gung ho.

The ending....

Spoiler

Isnt Makarov deed? I thought this was a different timeline or some shite compared to the old MW games but they all look at each like "Oh this cunt again" Which means we the audience are meant to assume its referring to the older games.

Shielded enemies looked like an awesome addition. Looked like it would stop it feeling quite so much like that pop up whack a mole feeling I had in earlier games. Frankly, unloading clips into enemies feels rad as hell when done right. (Gears of War doesn't do it right as they barely flinch - think Binary Domain)

Also, reminds me on John Wick 3. Specifically, the part at 2:49.

The Convoy mission

Everything after that was great.

Agreed. I had a fucked respawn that made me have to restart the whole level:

Spoiler

Killed by the landmines.

Respawn with a lorry pushing my back tyre and fishtailing me off a cliff.

Nothing I could do to avoid it.

Video here, nothing spoilery but will hide just in case.

I really enjoyed the campaign, production levels were amazing. Didn’t like about three chokepoints where it took me about 10 attempts to make headway.

I’ve always wished that they would introduce some solid Ai; like a Halo level so just a few of the bigger areas could be approached and played in different ways using the combat instead of effectively a memory test.

Indeed. I thought this one was a bit better in that regard, the gunfights were more tactical and slower paced than usual so you were forced into scavenging for ammo and using cover more, but proper AI would completely transform it. Despite appearing to be on a large scale the levels are actually quite narrow and rigid, maybe these environments are too constrained for Halo-esque combat. Feels like it's not even something they'll ever address at this point which is a shame.

Completed the campaign - I think ironically its been the first one I've done since the original MWII

Amazing visuals on the PS5 with VRR 120htz and all the motion blur and depth of field turned off - in-game visuals looked better than the CGI scenes! Seriously no complaints whatsoever with the visual and audio package here - a rare thing indeed.

Gameplay is OK - I mean don't shell out £70 just to play this campaign though, seriously. It was very trial and error for me, and I ended up just notching down to Regular difficulty around the half-way point because it wasn't much fun otherwise.

Some of the levels where incredible but not much was made of them - for example - it's been mentioned - Amsterdam - stunning detail, but nothing really happens there and its over. There is quite a lot of variety in the levels, but it does miss a big on-your-own firefight you could get your teeth into.

Bring on the MP on Friday!

^ The "do you want to upgrade to vault edition" every time you start the game is annoying.

I enjoyed the campaign, but I think less than 2019. I didn't feel it got the balance right between slow missions and the OTT battles. Somehow didn't feel like I was doing that much fighting. So much of the game seemed like they had played Uncharted and copied them into COD.

Dunkey video did show some of my low points too.

Spoiler

The Convoy bit I didn't find annoy like others described, but it fell really flat. It is straight up Uncharted (along with the destroy a tank with C4 moment) but had no sense of speed at all. Like half the speed it should have been.

If you are coming back for MP expect more of this crap - if not this then it'll be battle pass prompts all the time

The Vault Edition is another £30 - for a load of old tat

IDGI - I think this has been in-place for the last 3? COD games, maybe more - certainly CW and Vanguard anyway - and this is now the the most complained about feature - although quite how you give feedback to them has always been a mystery to me

Infinity Ward confirms that it hears complaints related to how lobbies disband after every game in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

All the updates are downloaded - the PS5 install size on the SSD now sits at 148.9GB

And yes they've fucked it already. With an end credit list that runs for about 15 minutes, and about 2 minutes of those are QA people, remarkable job - well done, looks good for the future

EDIT - a bit of fannying about - but just disconnect from the internet and restart the game

Feeing a bit down, I picked a copy of this up to make use of my limited holiday. forgetting all the atrocious behaviour of activision for some reason. I bought it three days ago. It’s never been ready to play since due to all its updates. Got a chance to play tonight and it’s not finished a new, 53gb download.

What on earth was I thinking?!

IW definitely highly regarded out of all of the COD Devs - but they are the worst for this sort of stuff. I had loads of problems with the last MW - I think I was unable to play for a week because the menu was broken - not a launch thing either - about 6 months in

A 40+GB update on PS5 version today - which according to tweets completely breaks the game and locks you out of the campaign - great job

Yep, workaround is to go to Quick Settings and back out and it works again.

Had a hard crash on one save point constantly on the last level so had

to restart the mission.

Apparently the disc version has 70mb of data on it. A JPEG of Ghost for the dashboard and an unlock key to the digital file and that's literally it.

Activision is the fucking worst

yeah. That’s a huge jpeg.

Presumably old ground, and I've just missed or forgotten the conversation, but does it state somewhere in the PS4/5 documentation or T&Cs that connectivity is required and that games may/will simply not work without it?

I'm well aware that, without the day 1 (2, 3, 4...) patches, you're not going to have a good experience with many games anyway - CP2077 etc. - but this seems like a step beyond. Two steps beyond, in fact: not only do you require a connection, but a pretty meaty one, given the content size, to play the game at all.

I would wonder about the accuracy of the 70MB claim though. This seems to be just because that's all the dashboard shows initially but that doesn't mean that no data is pulled off the disc after an activation patch or whatever. I suppose it should be quite obvious when you install: if the drive is silent throughout, there genuinely is no useful data on there.
