Anya Taylor Joy as Peach is great casting. And Seth Rogan could be a funny stoner Donkey Kong. And fuck knows what Keegan Michael Key is going to do as Toad, but I'm interested to find out.

It's just the Chris Pratt of it all. Not just a bland actor, but a shitty person in general.

I hope it's good but won't be surprised if it's average or mediocre.  This may be the beginning of the Nintendo Cinematic Universe or another dud cluttering up bargain bins in a few years.

I am surprised that there appears to be no game coming out alongside it.  Nintendo must really have faith that it can stand on it's own... or their development troubles run much deeper than I thought.

Yeah I think we must be due another Mario game if Switch 2 isn't in sight, especially as big games will still be releasing next year like Zelda.

Seems like an opportunity to sell a bunch of games if the movie does well.

Prediction: This will knock Avatar of the top spot 😋

Being a prototype, I suppose Bowser's Fury doesn't really count?

I hope there is some more info in the future of how this game came to be. Was it a tech demo that got turned into a larger game? Was it meant for a full release but due to the size/feel it was just added to 3d world as a bonus etc? Gotta be more to the story.

Probably more of a market test to see if people would find a more open world-ish Mario platformer appealing.

Could also simply be that they don't want to over-saturate the market. There's plenty of Mario product available as is on the Switch. Not to mention that Odyssey keeps selling 2/3 million copies each new year as well.

Nintendo even recently put out this video, or ad that highlights all the cool Mario "stuff" that's on the Switch!

They keep their games at a high quality and keep the sales evergreen with continual promotion. I am a fan of that approach as mentioned, each of the games they put out are sensationally good and I'd rather have fewer amazing games than less that are lesser.

If you're clamouring for a new Mario game, you could ask yourself the question - how much of the currently available ones did you actually play through and finish? 999 balloons? Bowser's Fury? Everything that NSMBU or SMM2 had to offer? There's a lot of meat on those games.

To all those that hearted this GIF, just know that this will be the most trending/talked about Direct of the year.  The trailer to the Mario movie is going to be waaaaaaay more talked about than the latest BOTW2 trailer. I will bet you right here and now that within a week, there will be more views on the Mario movie trailer than the latest BOTW2 trailer which is currently sitting at 4.5m views.
