I understand the character motivation to want that, but why would he need Kang? Don’t they literally just have a time machine lying around from the end of Endgame, the shower booth one Cap used, powered by Ant Man’s own tech? It’s like offering Superman a SpaceX flight. Guy’s already got that, it’s not a good basis for a Faustian bargain

Heck, probably loads of people have time machines now. Fifth biggest cause of death is going back to try to be a better dad and running in to a cosmic irony.

Huh, the Avengers living in a universe where time travel is not only possible but has zero consequences for the present (branching timelines etc.) raises some big questions now I think about it.

Shit, good point. I guess

Spoiler

he isnt actively pursuing the idea until he is stuck in the quantum realm and kang waves the offer under his nose? But yeah, it does weaken the cost/benefit analysis of making whatever 'deal' with him.

Branching timelines are not allowed by the TVA and there are consequences for creating them.

Spoiler

Of course, it does now appear that the TVA are themselves now stuck in a branching timeline of their own, weirdly. Or at least something similar as per the end of season 1.

I suspect we lack critical information that will only come out with these subsequent releases.

Intrigued. Moreso than I have been for a Marvel project in a while. Looks like there might actually be stakes here and wouldn't be shocked if certain characters don't make it to the end credits.

This might be a peculiarity of me, but ever since they've introduced the multi-verse I don't feel like there's any stakes to anything anymore. Whatever we're seeing in the marvel universe, is just a tiny part. So maybe Antman wins in this bit, but loses everywhere else? I find it really unsatisfying in a way that's tricky to explain and probably doesn't actually make any sense.

See, that's the potential in the setup - they can have multiple versions of the same person, which means anyone could be killed-off-but-not (paradoxically making it both higher and lower stakes) while also giving them opportunity for some wild character development.

Not to say they will necessarily do anything mega-interesting with it, but they certainly could. Moreso than without the multiverse stuff anyway. And if this Kang is duff, they can just try again with another one.

You are forgetting Dr Strange..but that’s fair enough.

That didn't really matter without America Chavez though, right? It seems like they've danced around it in Loki, Dr. Strange 2, Spiderlad 3, Ms. Marvel...

  • makkuwata changed the title to Ant-Man and The Wasp QuANTuMANia

Typo!

It just dawned on me after watching the Scream VI trailer that the title was probably contrived for a cringe poster.

It's my fault. In my morning daze, I missed that you said title!

Isn’t that for the last film?

Comes across as trying too hard to be funny, like they’ve already made up their mind about the narrative of their review and are going to make film fit into it. The last films’ comic relief was far and away Michael Peña and crew.

The overly aggressive marketing for this reeks of desperation to be honest. It makes me think they’re actually quite worried about audiences being a bit over it, when it’s supposed to be setting up a lot of what’s to come.

What aggressive marketing ? I've seen one poster on the Vue website and maybe one on the side of a bus.

I don't even remember if its on the cover of any mags in the corner shop. The only place that really talks about it is on here !!

Yeah, I've seen nothing for this. I'd forgotten it existed, which has been caused by a lack of marketing.

Though having remembered it exists, I'm not going to be rushing to watch it. Maybe Marvel should be worried about audiences being a bit over it after all.

Ant-Man always felt like the one character Marvel knows nobody will show up for. They put a big Endgame plot point in the sequel to coax people in to seeing it, and this one’s all about Kang allegedly, the big new villain they introduced in a TV show what feels like a million years ago and then seemingly forgot about.

Wasn't really "Kang" they introduced in Loki, but that's by the by.

I mean it's easy to be cynical and says that's the reason thr new big bad is in this film....or a varient of them anyway. They've said they wanted Ant-man to have a big film and not just be a filler film like time which is why he's kicking off Phase 5 and setting off the event. It does makes sense considering his links to the Quantum Realm.
