I think I'm going to be actually heartbroken if Canada end this with no goals and no points. They really lack that finesse and composure up front, sure, but they are giving it everything. Hope at the very least they build on this for the last two games but they deserve something today.

That corner is a great example of the lack of real quality though. They've had some really good free-kick positions/corners and the delivery on every single one of them has been awful. It's a real shame, because of some of their approach play has been excellent. They really needed to score that penalty.

That said, both Croatia and Morocco looked very, very average, so they could well get some points if anyone can find some shooting boots.

If they are part of the Japanese camp then does it matter?

One thing I forgot I like about watching the World Cup is watching it with lapsed fans.  The game is on in the staff room at work:

colleague - "I like the look of that Valverde, who does he play for?"

me - "Real Madrid."

colleague - "ah. I was gonna say the Villa should sign him, but maybe not then."

The Uruguay v South Korea game was fucking awful.  And I spent my working day moving meetings and taking a late lunch break to watch that shit.  FML.

Danny Murphy: "This is an intriguing match up"

<translates>

"Fuck me, this is bad. Shall we put some cartoons on instead?"

I'm pretty sure people are now able to watch every match and say any one is utter shit when there isn't a goal that goes top corner.

It's all easily available now and these 0-0's are early tournament AND give context for the better games.

Sure we've not had a really great match yet, what do you expect?

I think it's been a great world cup so far, considering we've had a mixture of results and some fascinating performances.

That Germany now have to go for it after seeing the Spanish inquisition interrogate their prey apart, it's all setting up wonderfully!

We’re entering the cliche zone now with Ronaldo and Brazil coming up.

Cue any free kick within 50y of goal as ‘in Ronaldo territory’ despite his awful awful record at them.

Then later the whole build up and comms will be frothing at Brazil like they are the 1970s vintage not the largely European based pragmatic lot they’ve been for decades.

After how bad Ronaldo has been this season, his interview with Piers and then being released as a free agent with no payoff, he's going to be absolutely amazing this world cup and everyone will go on about how Man United were stupid to let him go.
