I don't think Mount will come off. He does something mysterious, undetectable to anyone but Southgate.  If he did come off, perhaps bring Phillips on and try to control the midfield and send Bellingham further forward. There's also the wildcard option of Alexander-Arnold in midfield in the hope that he might score a worldy.

So USA battered Wales in 1st half of 1st game, but Wales were the better team in the second half.

England battered Iran who then battered Wales, but without scoring until the very end.

Now the USA look the slightly better team against England at the moment which means.?????

Grealish on on the left I like, as he links up well with Shaw. The problem is that Southgate is ignoring player performance with these subs. Sometimes you have to take someone who is playing badly off. Mount and Saka have been terrible, and there's no sign that they are suddenly going to start playing well.

I’m not seeing what Mount is doing so badly to piss everybody off.   England are losing the physical battle and the Americans are happy to swarm us in their box.  It’s difficult to play against.  I’m not sure if Rashford coming on means we will drop back 10-15 yards and try to draw them out a bit.  Assuming they bite.

i mean USA have played well. But they are there for the taking with a bit of quality. It’s just Southgate is doing his usual tactic of playing not to lose rather than playing to win.
he’s got the best player England have had in years sitting on the bench because … well I really don’t know why.

I can’t figure out what this means for the group now - England probably still guaranteed to go through due to goal difference if this finishes a draw?

Iran to go through as group winners after beating USA and Wales to go through after beating England 3-0.
