I'd definitely recommend Strange Horticulture. It's very different to Obra Dinn and this but uses much of the same skills. It also tells a lovely set of tales, has a wonderful map and doesn't outstay its welcome. A real hidden gem that has been badly overlooked I think.

Do you think it would work as couch co-op? That's how my partner and I have played Obra Dinn and Golden Idol.

Also, it's interesting (but not surprising) how more difficult ( from this thread, at least) Golden Idol has been for people playing it single player, rather than those bouncing ideas of another - it really removes a lot of friction/brute forcing - I really recommend trying it, even if the other person normally hates games.

I don't see why not.

For the most part visitors come to the shop and name of describe a plant they need or an ailment they have and you use your big book of plants to try to identify it and give it to them. Over time your collection of plants grows from visiting different places and progressing what it has in terms of story. There are a few different puzzle types as you go which vary the challenge.

I think in co-op there can also be an element of someone giggling at your struggles to organise your collection on the shelves.

I think it's really nicely atmospheric and just comforting in a way in which the other two aren't.

A bit late to the party, but I've just picked this up, and it's really something special. I got pretty engrossed with it and smashed through it in a couple of days. The difficulty was just right - I never got completely stuck, but a few of the cases (particularly the dinner party and the manor) took a bit of thinking to work through. The final plot twist landed perfectly for me, I put the pieces together just as I needed to to solve the last murder. (Though looking back, there were some pretty big hints at it in the earlier cases.)

I loved the bite sized cases. I've never managed to get into Obra Dinn, as every time I load it up I get intimidated by the massive journal, but this kept things feeling manageable all the time. Really should give it a proper go though, given how much I ended up loving this.

Still not played this! It's about £7 on CD Keys at the moment, too. Must resist.

Nah don’t resist. Buy it and get lost in the batshit story, it’s fucking incredible.

The DLC is out now! Looking forward to playing it over the weekend.

I like the way it is titled ‘Golden Idol Mysteries’ - would love more and more and more of these

EDIT: Well, shit. It’s not out on Mac and won’t be for a while...

Very enjoyable. I hope they make more!

This contains 3 scenarios which act a a prelude of sorts to the original. Complexity is similar to the later episodes of Golden Idol, with the first of the three being a bit simpler to ease us back in.

Lovely, thanks for posting. I think I’d happily pay them a fiver for a few new scenarios until the end of time.

I’m away without my Steam Deck atm but I’ll be downloading this as soon as I’m home!

Just a heads up this is now back in stock on CD keys for £7.49, got my copy and looking forward to giving it a go later after watching Guardians Vol 3.

Does the Switch version include the recent DLC?

No, it’s a separate purchase. There is a separate pack that includes it, for more money obviously.

How the bloody hell did I miss this?!

Tempted to start it while I play TOTK, which seems like a bad idea.

I don't think it's a mistake.

You could happily dip into a case at a time, and the early ones don't take too long. Do one an evening or something.

In fact maybe spreading it out will be better. You can let the tricky problems sit and be considered by your mind in the background whilst you play Zelda.

Just buy it. As should everyone with even a passing interest in mystery games. I think it's a wonder.

Oh blimey. I do not think trying to start playing this when I'm utterly buggered from work today was a good thing. So many things to click and I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing at all. I've immediately switched off and will attempt to start afresh some other day!

Maybe don’t start this yet, on Switch, if you’re planning on playing other things. It seems to wipe any progress as soon as you play something else, something confirmed when my daughter played ‘Cuphead’ for 57 seconds this morning.
