Dungeons & Dragons TV show

Paramount+ and Rawson Marshall Thurber are doing an 8-episode D&D show. It'll be produced by Paramount Pictures and eOne, the same pairing producing the D&D movie. Thurber is writing and directing the first episode.

There's not yet details on plot, but presumably in the same world as the movie. Don't know if there will be a more direct connection.

And failing that, Dragonlance please

Seriously, this. It's perfectly ripe for it for loads of reasons, not least of which being that it's not a great D n D setting as it's so fleshed out.

Some great characters in Raistlin and Cameron, that fucking kender, Lord Soth, Tanis, Kitiara - a couple of them would easily win a large fandom - Raistlin would be a huge hit with goth kids. Even the side characters like Dalamar and Astinus are quite intriguing.

The best story however is the Twins Trilogy, rather than the War of the Lance. It's more focused and has higher stakes.

Yep, and the origins of it as a game module means that it's pretty well structured for a film.

There was a terrible animated version of Dragons of Autumn Twilight, though Kiefer Sutherland did a passable turn as Raistlin

That the one with the weird 3D characters thrown in?

Picked up Dragons of Autumn Twilight a few years back for the kids (who weren’t interested) and ended up trying to read it. Loved it when I was a kid but it hasn’t aged all that well. Stopped reading as didn’t want to ruin the fond memories!

I imagine the Twins Trilogy would hold up much better. Much more interesting relationship. Most of Dragonlance was pretty stereotypical fantasy stuff. Raistin was about the only really interesting character. Of course as an emo 12/13 yo, I thought Sturm was the bees knees.

Will they stay faithful to the barely concealing boobie garments. Classic!

Nah, Kitiara all the way. Gotta love the bad girls!

Weirdly my intro to Dragonlance was via one of the short story books. ‘Kender, Gully Dwarves and Gnomes.’ I was randomly bought it at the airport before going away when I was about 12. Loved it. Had never read anything like it. Well I’d read the hobbit but this was different.

Also the first time I realised I quite enjoyed being dropped into the deep end with books and having to work stuff out. Probably why the Malazan Empire stuff struck a chord too.
