It’s not exactly liberal with the achievements this it it, I haven’t got any yet and I’ve done two levels, they’re fairly long as well.

I got two in the first level: For hitting 20 beats and for defeating the boss. Maybe worth a restart if you’ve got to the first summary screen without unlocking anything.

Edit: 20 successful beat hits, not 200!

I am playing it on easy so maybe it’s that.

I wouldn’t say it’s unplayable on xcloud at higher levels but you need a rock solid connection to compensate for the lag if you want to try them. It was running very well last night but less so today. Guess I get a better ping late in the evening.

I've got 4 out of just the first level on easy.

One at least is a pure story progression I think.

One for good hits (which is pure random as I'm shit). And one for something specific I must have done randomly during a fight with no idea i was doing it.

One for i guess exploring. Pushing all the buttons generally.

Oh I’ve had no problems whatsoever last night or this afternoon, connection has been rock solid with barely any perceptible lag, I just put in on easy because I wanted to enjoy it and not have anything too challenging.

I honestly cannot imagine trying to play a rhythm action game through streaming.

I’ll give it a go for you. It’s a lot like playing any other game through streaming but you notice the input delay more.

Just a little tip I find helps, and this is also true of Metal Hellsinger. I find it really helps if you change the sound mix. Leave master volume and music full and turn everything else down to about 2/3rds, all the chat and sound effects as still plenty loud enough but it makes it much easier to hear the beat.

Finished track 3 earlier and it’s ramping up your move set. Just a wonderful game.

Always said dat Xbox needed more weird Japanese shit on it. It gets one and it’s all omfggoty

Hope it does well and we get more. It was such a big part of the OG Xbox and feels like a side of its history they don’t bother with as much nowadays.

I wonder what it’s like making this game knowing that - because of the subscription model, and the fact it’s first party - it’s going to find an audience?

that first boss fight was lovely

Xbox streaming has got really good, plus on Steam Deck I suppose there might be less latency between controller and screen, although I could be imagining that, but it’s an ideal fit - this game looks gorgeous on a screen that size.

Controller to screen latency is negligible compared to device to cloud server.

Its good that this plays well on xCloud (I use it myself for many things and think it's fantastic). But I suspect part of it is that this game just isn't all that punishing about timing and not at all on easy.

This game is superb! An absolute treat of a game and that's only after the second boss.

It's full of references too

Spoiler

I could have sworn there was something to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake voice actress making a joke about taking the stairs being an arduous path.

For something like this to just spring into existence fully formed is just, *chefs kiss*

It’s gorgeous on a 55 inch OLED too. I don’t think it needs the steam deck screen!

Second level down. Starting to get the rhythm of fights, at least when I can remember to calm down and play a little slower.

Almost died part way through the second level jumping between some moving circular platforms. Not a massive fan of their sections but passable.

No doubt, but some games definitely lend themselves well to portable play, and this is one of them. I imagine it looks lovely blown up on a TV as well, I’ll have to try it, but as a game to kick back and relax with wherever you might be it works very well. Of course it’s available native too for those who don’t want to use streaming.

This is great. Fast smooth fun and just very playable. It's like the essence of what gaming is about for me brought upto date a bit. Loving the visuals and sound. A lovely fusion of rhythm game, fighter and platforming.

Someone mentioned upthread it feels like something Sega would have brought to the Dreamcast. Absolutely. A "gamers game" - old school concepts fused and brought upto date. Certainly a refreshing game after all these open world movie type games.

I’m quite enjoying this. Like others have said, it feels like a Dreamcast game. The movement is rather floaty and my immediate reaction was to wish the running around was faster/heavier feeling, but the combat is fun and it has a nice atmosphere.

It’s nice to get to play through a game before the experts tell everyone what their opinion of it should be and people start parroting that.

It will be interesting to compare the reactions from the early pages of this thread to the consensus in a few months/a year.

Just from the number of alternative combos, and the variation of when you might bring in other elements or create different builds, the systematic elements seem quite deep. There will be some interesting and unrepeatable YouTube videos for sure.

This is just an unbelievably cool and fun game. It's giving me what I was missing after Astral Chain, the last action game like this that had the same sense of fun, creativity and style.

Interesting side note: Max Dood streamed this last night right after it dropped, instead of playing Forspoken, which got dropped like a hot rock, and the stream went down an absolute storm with viewers absolutely adoring it and the chat going mental.

This game is absolutely going to become a cult hit this year.

Okay. So now I'm just stuck dead and very angry at the game at the end of world 3.

There's a chase sequence where you have so little time it's crazy. You have to use a character to smash a rock but getting him to do it seems so hit and miss.

Clearly I'm an idiot and never worked out why sometimes he does it and others just fucks off but it's really ruined this for me.

Even worse is the popup after shit loads of deaths telling me to turn on auto action to help in combat. Not in combat so that's no help.
