Deliver Us Mars (Out now)

Was taken by surprise by a Steam notification showing this was out today and I think this got some traction in the games people are excited about in the next 18 months but all gone a bit quiet. So a thread to remind people :)

Personally I'm waiting a bit. Got a bunch of other things to play at the moment. And part of me would love to see this (and Deliver Us the Moon which I've not played) come to Game Pass. But I'll probably cave in the future if this gets generally positive opinions.

Currently only running about 75% on Opencritic but early doors.

RPS sounded reasonably positive and it sounds like my sort of story heavy platform and puzzle adventure.

Deliver Us The Moon has already been on Game Pass, which isn’t to say it won’t return, but potentially makes it less likely.

Just means now is the perfect time to drop them both onto it :D

Deliver Us The Moon was on Game Pass a while ago (it's where I played it).

I'm very interested in this but my only concern is that the devs may have gone for a longer game, rather than the tighter focus (and more walking-sim experience) of the first title.

Like you though, I currently have far too much I'm playing, so won't be taking the plunge right now (I don't even know the last game I bought at launch but it will have been a long time ago.)

Watched the trailer now and am liking the look of that (if not quite the character models).

I hope it captures that feeling of emptiness; one of the best bits about the first game was when you left the base and travelled to other outposts - the scale was brilliant but, more importantly, so was the atmosphere. They captured the silence and stillness of the Moon and I truly felt insignificant and alone in this space, so I hope they have crafted something similar in this.

Bought this via rewards points, seeing as I loved the first one via GamePass.

Lot of scene setting to start off with. And it spoils the ending of the first if you haven’t finished it.

But it definitely feels like it is more of the same, in a good way.

Midway through Chapter 3 as I haven't had as much time as I would have liked.  Going to avoid spoilers.

I really need a refresher on the plot for the first one.  The story isn't complicated, it just seems to have a sort of prologue that is before and now we're into dealing with the after.

The puzzles are quite simple but that's not really the point, like the first one you are playing your way through the story which in itself is worth it.  There is definitely that sense of loneliness and scope, despite being part of a small crew you are basically left to get on with it with only audio and the ASE orb.  I quite lick the fact that some of the tasks are very guided, no pressure, just there to immerse you into the story.  Got to the first hologram, which was a tricky one - obvious what to do but didn't quite click the controls on how to do it.  It's quite a clever one, actually.

The graphics are certainly more than good enough for someone like me who doesn't give a damn about such things - in other words you can find the flaws if you want to.  The actual vistas and backgrounds are excellent.

So, definitely more of the same and I'm very happy with (sort of) paying money for it.

That's really good to hear @Plissken. I thought the first game looked really good, so I can't imagine I'd be disappointed with this either.

Also really happy with this:

I look forward to playing this in 2025 or whenever I get through some of my backlog :D

And finished.

It's excellent.  Definitely the same as ...Moon and then some.  They do a really good job of recapturing the sense of scale and how tiny you are against that.

This time there are actual characters that you are working alongside in this one - graphics aside (they look a bit XBox 360), they work well in terms of voice acting and the plot and motivations. I've written in the Completed Games thread a little bit more but if you finished ...Moon then you will definitely enjoy this.  Basically the good things about the predecessor are built on here and the not so good bits (e.g. the clunky controls during certain time critical moments) are there too.

Story spoilers (though I'll try and avoid actual spoilers)

Spoiler

There are absolutely moments where you go "oh" in shock/surprise/disappointment.  That's when I knew the story had grabbed me. Some of the cut scenes are brilliantly filmic in a good way, a lot of "show, don't tell".

The end sequences really got me wondering about certain outcomes.  (Yes, I'm really stretching to avoid spoilers.)  I definitely want to discuss it with other people though!

In summary, bloody loved it.  Want more of this sort of thing (recommendations welcome).  For twenty quid you absolutely can't go wrong.

Lol, the character models on the children in this first section have to be the worst I have ever seen, the main character looks about 45.

Edit: Yep, that was a truly woeful intro. The adult character model looks younger than the child, plus the intro itself was infuriatingly bad.

@Plissken Apologies for tagging you, but can you tell me if there are regular flashbacks to playing as the child?

Besides there is one character that has massive Tiger Ninestein/Ulysses 31 vibes and not in a good way. The other characters do not look great but it’s never something I care about.

I can't get past it, the previous game didn't have this issue because you're alone. I'm probably gonna get a refund, but I'll sit on it for a while.

Edit: Thanks! :hat:
