Physical 100 - super sexy Koreans

Watched all 4 so far. It’s great fun. Even the bonkers editing, obvious cliffhangers, and weird repeat/looping shots.

And yes, they are mostly insanely ripped, and there is a lot of violence ahead. But they are also (mostly) really sweet people.

Edit: It’s new on Netflix for those seeking context from the OP lol.

Yep, all of the above. I love it, and the contestants are so respectful of each other and surprisingly well aware of people from outside their own sport or organisation. They do the expected posturing before a battle and the second it’s over they are all smiles.

It’s oddly compelling.

I absolutely hate these bits and they happen so often.

I hope the Olympic gymnast guy wins, he seems nice!

He does. So does the older MMA guy though. And the first woman who went in is an absolute goddess so she needs to stay in as long as possible. The skeleton Olympian is a beast. I can’t see him losing at anything much unless they have to crawl through a narrow pipe to get to the other uplink.

Yeah I really enjoyed the first couple

of episodes. If this had been a US show you just know everyone would be super obnoxious trash talkers and there’s no way I could watch it.

Whereas everyone is generally super respectful here. They do try to trash talk but it’s so gentle it’s quite funny.  “I’ve been out of Korea for too long. She looked me right in the eyes!” exclaimed one person about the lack of respect shown to her by her opponent.

The weird repeating shots are quite annoying and the worst thing in it though.

This is good but I don't believe the incredibly buff firefighter (or mountain rescuer or something) who says in the first episode "I didn't get this body in the gym, I got it in real life by saving people" (or something).

Otherwise surely all firefighters would look like super-jacked bodybuilders.

No, the worst thing is having to wait a week between episodes :quote:

One of my favourite bits is how often the English subs uses the phrase “X is no joke!” Where X can be any part of someone’s anatomy, a particularly dynamic move, or the severity of a challenge. “His quads are no joke!”, “That drop into the pit is no joke!”, “Wrestlers are no joke!”

Whether this is a very common Korean phrase, or just a simplification of the translation, I love it and plan to start using it more. No joke.

The dubbing is the same as the way all Korean TV shows are dubbed, and even going back to the way Japanese anime was dubbed when I first watched it back in the 90s - you get the impression that phrases and euphemisms have been westernised, which is fair enough because we probably wouldn't have any frame-of-reference for the authentic Asian ones. But you end up with some of it sounding a bit "off" in a slight way that it's very hard to put your finger on. It's really hard to describe, but if you watch the two common dubs of Akira - one which is very westernised (the one we usually see) and the less common one which uses more literal translations for some of the Japanese phrases - so it sounds a bit more alien to us, but more authentic - then you see what I mean. All the Netflix dubs tend to go the first route. No joke.

Eps 5 and 6 are all kinds of amazing.

Massive spoiler:

Spoiler

Female wrestler team won their bridge game! Delighted for them.

How cool was the lass with pink hair in the torso pull round?

I think the mostly female team alliance are buggered on the ship pull though. ☹️

The bridge building one was just excellent watching from start to finish. Loved it.

Yes, it definitely showed that teamwork and coordination was as important as raw strength, if not more.

Next episode should be ace.

Spoiler

That boat challenge in ep6 is ridiculous. Surely the beefy second team would’ve realised they had the wrong approach when they had all the strength advantage while making really hard work of the challenge? It really is no joke.
