I think the original looks stunning. Has a beautiful and cohesive artstyle, and is a rock solid 60 FPS. Prime on a CRT looks phenomenal. To be honest, the only thing that would really add to the original in those conditions would be better lighting effects.

I downloaded the Japanese apps for GB/GBC and GBA. Only difference is that Japan gets some old mahjong game for the GB.

Yakuman? GB launch title in Japan, believe it or not. Looks like Japan’s games selections for the services will diverge more from the western releases in future updates.

With two major releases and several other big releases set for the first six months of the year there’s no way Nintendo want to make a lame duck of the Switch in 2023. I don’t think we’ll get a whisper about any Switch successor until this time next year.

I’m still holding out hope that we’re getting the Gamecube Zeldas second half of this year, and Metroid Prime 4.

Agreed, regardless of their no show at E3 or ‘quiet schedule’ they hit that Direct hard and we still have no idea about the latter part of the year.

I don’t reckon those Zeldas will be this year though, there will be enough Zelda with TOTK and the GB/GBA games. I reckon they will be 2024 and then, and this is wild speculation obviously, Ocarina of Time remaster & Prime 4 launch titles, or at least launch window/year in 2025 for Switch 2.

Advance Wars is another notable exception to that rule. But yes, when it comes to Japan-made games, the Japanese art is almost always nicer (Advance Wars being a notable exception). Example from my shelves:

Yeah, I was getting at the horrendous camo-print monstrosity that was the Game Boy Wars Advance 1 & 2 release in Japan. Not an attractive piece of boxart, whether compared with the individual Western releases, or with the original Japanese Game Boy Wars.

That first GBA Fire Emblem is really good, played it via a fan translation years ago and enjoyed it more than the sequel (which was the first localised GBA game).

Probably loses a lot of its appeal in Japanese mind (assuming like me you can’t read it!).

The video showed Mario using the cape.

That's an e-reader level from the SMB 3 cards. They remixed lots of different mechanics from other Mario games. Thanks to M2 the e-reader levels were included in the Wii U virtual console release, and also here it looks like.

I've played through all three Kururin games over the last year but still find myself tempted to play the first again.

Should probably get around to Spinfrog, really.

I get the impression it's a FTP with a rather cheeky 79p price tag.

It's not. I've just been playing it. They put the thing out at $1 because they are trying to get the series to take off in the American market.

I'm going to have to wait for the physical copy of the Prime remaster. I sold my original GameCube copy back in the day to fund other games and it's one of my biggest regrets.

Me too, I regret selling mine although I've bought the digital version - and will be double dipping for physical.

Does anyone have a link to where I can pre-order the physical Metroid?

Nice to see a *very* short clip of Blanc - its out on the 14th but has already appeared downloaded (but not playable) on my switch. If you haven't please have a look at it. I really want this to do well - its a gorgeous charming hand-drawn co-op adventure. Its clearly a  labour of love.

Finally while I was excited for the Etrian I-III they seem too expensive a remaster unlike Metroid. I mean £35.99 each or £751.99 for the complete package. That said those are digital prices. I just hope we get physical release - I'll probably crumble then as they are bloody charming games and it'd be nice to replay them with nice resolution abd new static creature & character art.

But then I am a bit of an Etrian Odyssey fanboy!

I'm with you, love all the EO games on the 3DS, plus the Persona Q games (good job I love both series). All mine are digital though.

I'm also still not convinced they they will work as well on the Switch. Using the stylus to map just feels tight and a brilliant implementation of the 3DS lower screen. I'll try playing them when they come out if there is a demo, but will hold off for a new entry before jumping in I think

By the looks of it the remasters are the original DS games not the Untold versions so there won’t be a story mode and some QoL updates might be missing. This is probably because EOIII never got an Untold update which is why it goes for £crazy on eBay. Hopefully the ports are successful enough that Persona Q comes to Switch as well.

Maybe i am missing something but i can't figure out how to get these "new" Mario 3 levels to work on the GBA

As far as I can tell you go to the level card option when you are picking your save file and then go to the blue square near the castle. Press A on that and it will bring up a list of what I assume are the card levels.
