N64 controller / Kitsch Bent parts

Recommended Posts

Has anyone got any experience of Kitsch Bent replacement parts for the N64 controller? The stick on my controller is quite loose and I’m debating whether to go for an original in (hopefully) better condition or a refurb with replacement parts.

I just did this to my two n64 pads this week!

Worked brilliantly. Definitely worth it. Takes a few weeks for parts to arrive from states.

Aiming in Goldeneye with them feels completely different now, much easier than knackered sticks.

I was actually going to reply on the main N64 appreciation thread, as I was already discussing replacement sticks with @bplus

He mentioned that you could order replacement parts from Kitsch Bent and, seeing how I haven't' had much luck with replacement sticks from ali-express, I was curious and ordered a second hand n64 controller with replacement Kitsch Bent parts from ebay and have been impressed with the results.

I've used this n64 controller test rom on real hardware and here are the results:

My best condition original n64 controller with all original parts, which have been cleaned and greased several times:

And finally, results from a near new nintendo online 64 controller connected to the n64 using a blue retro receiver from 8bitmods.

You can see that the replacement parts give a good result, and doesn't feel stiff, or scrape when using it, so I would definitely recommend them.

If @bplus @Count Buffalos @Colonel Panic and I all want to order more parts (as I have several sticks I'd like to fix) maybe we could pool an order and only pay for shipping only once?

Hi , thanks for the offer but I've replaced all the sticks I'm gonna do for the foreseeable future :)

I ended up buying a replacement from eBay. However, it’s a long time since I’ve used a new N64 controller - is there meant to be any play at all in the stick? My replacement is better than the previous but there’s still a little play there.
