So after all of Capcom's efforts they've made a game that's 1 worse, but still 2 better than 3rd Strike.

Yes it is (well ChatGPT3 is). It finished being trained on data early 2022 so it doesn't know about anything post some point in 2021.

Happens a lot with these start-ups with big name pedigree, anyone remember this? I had to google 'PS4 games starting with D' it left such an impression.

If you every have the ability to do so play Resident Evil 4 VR. It might not have the graphical bells and whistles of this version but there’s something truly magical about being ‘inside’ the game you remember.

I was hoping it would open the floodgates of other classic games getting the same treatment but all the VR companies went straight back to making yawn inducing ‘experiences’.

To be fair, even though I asked the question, I can fully accept that a 20 year old game with more control options can be worth a much lower score today than it was then. Any game is reviewed against the standards of it's time. For example, some might complain about Metroid Prime's save system or map (stealing from TCGS, I've not played it myself) being outdated by today's standards which means it might not be worth the same score it got before. Is GTA3 still the same thing today as it was when it was released? Or would it feel janky and limited compared to 5? A marvel of it's time but not so today.

 

The difference is that without having reviewed it, we don't know if RE4 is just the original with polish or if it's been updated properly. Brought into line with modern day standards. From the demo that doesn't seem the case. It's had an overhaul. It's a remake not a remaster (for whatever those terms mean). So it could be stuck in the past and limited by it or updated and thrive next to today's best.

 

The problem is a dumb and out of context definitive statement of fact.

Are you talking at me here? It’s a fairly vague opinion I’ve made on a game that’s now being judged against 20yrs of innovations since it - in a magazine famous for rewarding innovation with high scores. I’m looking forward to it as much as the next person, but I’m not overtly blind to reality.
