I was expecting a hip-hop DJ album with lots of "wikka-wikka" scratching but its nothing like that. Its a great mix of all sorts of genres of music and it just sounds great together. Hes got a nice collection of collaborations on the album but most of them are with rappers such as Nate Dogg/Ghostface Killah (on the rather excellent "Ooh Wee" which you may have heard on the radio) plus Mos Def+M.O.P, Nappy Roots and chart-friendly Sean Paul. The Seal Paul is actually a rejigged and remixed version of his song currently in the charts, it sounds infinitely better but it does represent possibily the only weak point during the album.

The best track on it for me has to be the rock track "Bout To Get Ugly" which works far better than it prehaps sounds it should, with an interesting changing tempo chucked in with a funky guitar in the background.

Even if you don't like Hip Hop much Im pretty sure theres a lot for you to like here.

I could've done yes, but I really don't consider it to be that much of a hip-hop record hence me trying to show the album to a larger audience.

Its an album Id consider almost anyone would like and hopefully some none hip-hop heads will become aware of it and give it a chance. After all it misled me as to what sort of album it would be.

Anyway its not THAT old plus it only came to my attention this week as Id just bought it.

Ben would probably 'bum him in the gob' and post pictures about it not actually being HipHop or something.

I Suck is my fav, Rashi shows you what Timberlake was listening to when he wrote the McDonalds tune, and the sheer blend of background ready music with jumping lyrics makes this acer!

He also plays the instruments on the album, if the inlay is anything to go by. I can't see many hiphoppers bothering with live instruments!

maybe great's a little strong.

and yes i've heard better...but it was still a nice surprise for spring/summer 03.

Sounds more like it. 'Ooh Wee' knocked me out my seat when I first heard it getting played in clubs. It's a cool thing when you hear Ghostface over Boney M breaks (of all things!).

Oh right.

Does 'many' operate under the slane guise of 'none' these days?

Hip-Hop is still 90% generic drivel. Not worth my loving efforts at the moment.

Suprisingly enough, anything I do listen to is open to or record with live instromoments. Christ, I even listened to that last Macy Gray album (not great) because it had live drums.

The play more live instruments in trance!

For fuck sakes. Your missing out on great percussion on a whole bunch of hip-hop albums. Your loss, moron.

Yeah yeah, my 'fucking' and 'moronic' loss.

It's like finding a needle in a haystack with Hip-Hop, I'd rather concentrate my efforts sifting the 'great' from the 'good' in many other genres on my door step.

So, it's been a long time since anyone posted in here... In the interest of forum ettiquette (how do you spell that word...?), I decided to bump this rather than start a new thread.

Heard good things, from googling rhymefest and hearing an awesome remix of Air's Alpha Beta Gaga. Thought I'd check it out, so downloaded 'Ooh Wee', and...well, it's a bit meh. There's nothing particularly wrong with it, but it's pretty predictable hip hop.

Is it worth checking out more? And can anyone maybe put me in touch with some? As it stands I wouldn't spend money on getting the album...
