The Metal recommendations thread

I thought that since it is such a hard genre to find anything remotely approaching genius unless you religiously buy tons and tons of shite and give each 10 listens only to decide that it's crap, that we should have this thread.

I'm going to start by advising everyone to get a CD that they may not have purchased:

Arcturus The Sham Mirrors

Arcturus do indeed kill it.

Ok, GREAT metal albums, off the top of my head. And yes I have mentioned em all before.

God Forbid - Determination (metal)

Cave In - Until your heart stops (noisecore)

Children of Bodom - Hatecrew Deathroll (death/black)

Nodes of Ranvier - S/T (christian metalcore)

Avenged Sevenfold - Waking the fallen (fashioncore)

From autumn to ashes - too bad you're beautiful (emocore)

between the buried & me - s/t (grind)

Caliban - shadow hearts (metal)

Course of Action - s/t (metalcore)

Alabama thunder pussy - perseverance (stoner)

Clutch - Pure rock fury (stoner/rock & roll)

Boy sets fire - after the eulogy (the best emocore album ever written)

Converge - Jane Doe (too fucking extreme for words)

Man I was just going to post a question in here as to whether Jane Doe is actually good once you get into it or is it just extreme for the sake of it?

I have listened to it once on a listening post and it is VERY extreme. Not sure if it's 'get into able'.

Ooh, two of my faves. Premonitions of war are aces. i think everybody's got Mastodon by now surely.

I still struggle with jane Doe despite having heard it a hundred times. i'd say it's just not actually that enjoyable, even though there are moments on it that are absolute genius. Try 'petitioning the empty sky' by converge instead. It's just as crazy and in your face, but it definately has tunes.

New kids on the block

I bet they never burned down a church.

They aren't allowed in this list.

I just got the new My Dying Bride album.

Got Thrice because of Rantin' James, I love it, so thanks J!

Going to get the new Mistress album too.

Recently bought Sisters of Mercy's greatest hits, a must for any decent collection!

Do you guys make these genre names up for fun? Honestly, I thought *another, anonymous form of music* was pretty bad for it. But you've got them beat hands down.

I like rock, but I just don't get all these crazy genres either.

Apparently, I wuite like post-hardcore stuff right now.

A friend of mine also l"math core".

I've no idea what they mean.

You're absolutely right, but it makes it easier to decide what on earth they are going to sound like !!

'Math-Core' is just edge kids way of defining bands with really technical riffs and abrasive alterations in melody and timing during songs.

Personally, i'm into quite alot at the moment. Current ipod faves include 94% Burnt by the Dillinger Escape Plan, A Fitting Lie by In Pieces, Under A Killing Moon by Thrice, Vengence Unleashed by Dying Fetus, Hurting and Shoving by Glassjaw (and old fave) and anything by HORSEtheband, Wage Of Sin, Foredirelifesake and Alexisonfire.

All noteworthy.
